Why Ellen White did not Leave the SDA Church

One criticism of my teachings is that, according to my theses, Ellen White should have left the church in her day! Especially when the church stepped upon another platform of organization shortly after the General Conference Session of 1901, to re-instate a President. Ellen White approved the findings of the minority Committee that concluded the church should not have a president. Why? Because a president founds the church on the same basis as a hierarchy, as does Rome, and puts man in the position only God should fill. If man is the leader of the church, then God is displaced. To say that Ellen White should have left at that time (circa 1901-1903) is not correct for the following reasons:

1. Israel wanted a King, and God permitted it though He did not agree with it. That kingly power was a powerful force in contributing to Israel's downfall to apostasy.

2. Ellen White portrayed a correct response toward such apostasy in The Great Controversy, p. 45. Here is her statement:

"After a long and severe conflict, the faithful few decided to dissolve all union with the apostate church if she still refused to free herself from falsehood and idolatry. They saw that separation was an absolute necessity if they would obey the word of God. They dared not tolerate errors fatal to their own souls, and set an example which would imperil the faith of their children and children's children. To secure peace and unity they were ready to make any concession consistent with fidelity to God; but they felt that even peace would be too dearly purchased at the sacrifice of principle. If unity could be secured only by the compromise of truth and righteousness, then let there be difference, and even war." The Great Controversy, p. 45.

Notice the qualifying words: "After a long and severe conflict." God sometimes permits such a long, protracted process of time to prove His point. Look at the six-thousand year experiment into sin. God has permitted the error of sin to endure to prove His point. Some maintain that God never uses error to establish truth, but that is a gross error. God has used the error of sin to prove to all the Universe the evils of sin. God covered over the error of when Christ would return in 1844. Ellen White says to! God does not need to do anything, but He obviously chose to prove the efficacy of His government by demonstrating the results of disobeying His principles.

However, God does not always permit a protracted period of time after certain apostasies occur. For example, the Korah, Dathan and Abiram rebellion was nipped in the bud mighty quickly! The apostasy of the golden calf was dealt with speedily! What about the apostasy in 1844, when the churches spurned the first and second angel's messages? Why they were accounted of God as fallen in the very summer of 1844! Notice:

"When the CHURCHES spurned the counsel of God by rejecting the Advent message, the Lord rejected them. The first angel was followed by a second, proclaiming, 'Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication' [Rev. 14:8]. This message was understood by Adventists to be an announcement of the moral fall of the churches in consequence of their rejection of the first message. The proclamation, 'Babylon is fallen,' was given in the summer of 1844, and as the result, ABOUT FIFTY THOUSAND WITHDREW FROM THESE CHURCHES." E.G. White, The Spirit of Prophecy, (1884 Great Controversy) vol. 4, p. 232.

"As the churches refused o receive the first angel's message, they rejected the light from heaven and fell from the favor of God. They trusted to their own strength, and by opposing the first message placed themselves where they could not see the light of the second angel's message. But the beloved of God, who were oppressed, accepted the message, 'Babylon is fallen,' and LEFT THE CHURCHES." Early Writings, p. 237.

'It was to separate the church of Christ from the corrupting influence of the world that the first angel's message was given. But with the multitude, even of professed Christians, the ties which bound them to earth were stronger than the attractions heavenward. They chose to listen to the voice of worldly wisdom and turned away from the heart-searching message of truth...When the churches spurned the counsel of God by rejecting the advent message, the Lord rejected them. The first angel was followed by a second...This message was understood by Adventist to be an announcement of the moral fall of the churches in consequence of their rejection of the FIRST MESSAGE." E.G. White, Story of Redemption, p. 364.

So we can see that God does NOT always give a protracted period of time for His people to confess and repent of their apostasy! So how do we know when to act speedily in response to apostasy and when to allow God time to work for repentance? God has given some very clear examples in Scripture and in history. For example, in Jeremiah 11:9-15, there is a list of items that are so serious that in the event of violation of these principles, we are admonished not to even pray for a corporate people. This would imply unpardonable sin.
For another example, Ellen White states that in every generation since Christ, true reformers have left the ecclesiastical churches of their day because the truth they proffered to those churches was spurned and rejected by the leaders of those churches. You may find this principle corroborated in Desire of Ages, p. 232. This same principle was instituted in 1844, when in one summer about 50,000 were called out of the apostate churches because those churches spurned truth; the first and second angel's messages, and the Midnight Cry. There is a most important lesson in these examples, and that lesson is that when Everlasting Gospel truth is spurned, a ready response to apostasy is warranted and absolutely necessary.

An example of how professing Seventh-day Adventists have spurned Everlasting Gospel truth by violation of the first and second angel's messages and the Midnight Cry, is their imbibing of ecumenical linkage with Babylon via ecumenical involvement. Another example wherein they have violated the same principle is by their business partnership with the Catholics involving their hospital in Colorado. Ellen White said that we are never to engage business partnership with unbelievers:

"The Lord is testing His people to see who will be loyal to the principles of His truth...To bind ourselves up by contracts with those not of our faith is not in the order of God. We are to treat with kindness and courtesy those who refuse to be loyal to God, but we are never, never to unite with them in counsel regarding the vital interests of His work." Testimonies, vol. 7, 107-108.

The principles of the above statement apply very specifically to New Movement Adventism's Denver Porter Hospital, in regard to its December 16, 1995 "partnership" merger with the Roman Catholic Church--owned Sisters of Charity Health Services Hospital System.

"I saw that Sabbath-keepers should not be in PARTNERSHIP with UNBELIEVERS. God's people trust too much to the words of strangers, ask their advice and counsel, when they should not. The enemy makes them his agents, and works through them to perplex and take from (rob) God's people." E.G. White, Spiritual Gifts, Volume 4B, p. 41.

Here "Sabbath-keepers" are distinguished from unbelievers, or those who do not keep the Sabbath.

"Porter Care Adventist Health System of Metro Denver recently entered into a strategic agreement with Sisters of Charity Healthcare Corporation to form Centura Health, a JOINT OPERATING COMPANY....
Since this PARTNERSHIP gives us the opportunity to perpetuate and expand our mission, we believe that Ellen White would want us to grasp this opportunity for ministry." Charles Sandefur, President, Mid-American Union of Seventh-day Adventists, Letter to Colorado pastors, February 13, 1996."

We already know what Ellen White said about such PARTNERSHIP with unbelievers! Our leaders could and should know what she said! Such PARTNERSHIP with Babylon, is a direct violation of the Everlasting Gospel of Revelation 14. This act alone demands separation, because it involves violation of the Everlasting Gospel. Every MEMBER of the corporate Seventh-day Adventist Church is corporately responsibility for this betrayal of sacred trust involving the Everlasting Gospel to come out and be a holy, separate and peculiar people.

"I SAW that God was displeased with His people for becoming surety for UNBELIEVERS. I was directed to these texts: Proverbs 22:26: 'Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts." Proverbs 11:15: 'He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretyship is sure.' Unfaithful stewards! They pledge that which belongs to another,--their heavenly Father,--and Satan stands ready to aid his children to wrench it [ROB IT] OUT OF THEIR HANDS. Sabbathkeepers SHOULD NOT BE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UNBELIEVERS. God's people trust too much to the words of strangers, and ask their advice and counsel when they should not. The enemy makes them HIS AGENTS, and works THROUGH THEM to perplex and take from [rob] God's people." Testimonies, vol. 1, p. 200.

"Among our people generally in these kingdoms, the Sabbath has not stood in the exalted position where God has placed it. The world is the instrument that sifts the church, and tests the genuineness of its members. The world holds out inducements, that, when accepted, place the believer where his life is not in harmony with his profession. Some of our brethren engaged in business have not kept the Sabbath according to the commandment. Some have been in PARTNERSHIP WITH UNBELIEVERS, and the influence of these Sabbath-breaking associates has had its effect upon them. Some have been so blinded that they could not discern the danger in such connections, but it is only the greater because unperceived. While one partner is professedly observing the Sabbath, the other, with the laborers employed, is carrying on the business of the firm. The Sabbath-keeper, though not outwardly engaged in labor, cannot keep his thought from business matters. While he may endeavor to keep the Sabbath, he does not keep it. The Lord looks upon him as a transgressor." E.G. White, Historical Sketches of the Foreign Missions of the Seventh-day Adventists, p. 215.

So partnership with unbelievers is just another way the professing New Movement SDA church is not keeping the commandments of God. Then they take 1893 quotes by Ellen White to prove that they are not Babylon, but the Commandment-keeping people of God! What a lie! What a sham! God is weeping!

"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?" II Corinthians 6:14.

"We are to do all that we can to enlighten those in ignorance; but we are NEVER TO CONFEDERATE WITH MEN OF THE WORLD in order to receive financial assistance." Testimonies, vol. 9, 233.

Why the Porter Hospital merger with Catholics? Because of financial assistance reasons! A direct violation of the counsel of God to the church concerning ecumenical connection. All who KNOWINGLY so do are "broken in pieces," Isaiah 8:9-20. All who so do step off the Midnight Cry lighted path, and it is IMPOSSIBLE TO GET BACK ON THE PATH AGAIN. Impossibility to get back on the path again connotes nothing more nor less than UNPARDONABLE SIN! E.G. White, Word to the Little Flock, p. 14.

"We are to enter into no confederacy with those who do not 'love or fear God.' Those who have not the light of present truth, who are unable to endure the seeing of Him who is invisible, are surrounded all in dreariness. They know not the meaning of joy in the Lord. They take no interest in eternal realities. Their attention is engrossed by the trifling things of earth. They make haste unto vanity, striving by unfair means to obtain advantages. Having forsaken God, the fountain of living waters, they hew out for themselves broken cisterns, that can hold no water.' E.G. White, Review and Herald, vol. 6, 437, col. 2.

PASTORS AND TEACHERS--CEASE TO DEPEND UPON.--"The flock of God s in need of help from Heaven, and the sheep and lambs are perishing for food. But those who would have a deep and living experience in the things of God, cease to depend upon men, even their pastors and teachers, and put their trust wholly upon God using their God-given ability to His glory." E.G. White, Letter to Elder Olsen, September 1, 1892. The test of whether or not one loves and fears God, is found in 1 John 5:2. The professing Seventh-day Adventist New Movement-Organization does not believe that it is possible to perfectly fulfill this test. Therefore, we are to enter into no confederacy (union--membership) with them. Notice:

"Shall we unite ourselves with those that are full of error, who have no respect for God's commandments, and shall our students go forth to obtain the finishing touches of their education from them?
Whatever plan you follow, take your position that you will not unite [JOIN] with those that do not respect God's commandments." E.G. White, Loma Linda Messages, p. 15.

"If all would be obedient to the law of God, he would not be obliged to give up his former associates; but where one alone, or a very few at most, take a position on the side of right, A SEPARATION BECOMES NECESSARY." E.G. White, Review and Herald, vol. 1, p. 497, col. 2.

"I saw that decided efforts should be made to show those who are unchristian in life their wrongs, and if they do not reform, they should be separated from the precious and holy, that God may have a clean and pure people that He can delight in. Dishonor Him not by linking or uniting the clean with the unclean." Testimonies, vol. 1, 117, 118.

"I was shown the necessity of those who believe that we are having the last message of mercy, being SEPARATE from those who are daily imbibing new errors. I saw that neither young nor old should attend their meetings; for it is wrong to thus encourage them while they teach error that is a deadly poison to the soul and teach for doctrines the commandments of men." E.G. White, Early Writings, p. 124, 125.

"As a people professing to be REFORMERS, treasuring the most solemn, purifying truths of god's word, we must elevate the standard far higher than it is at the present time. Sin and sinners in the church must be promptly dealt with that others may not be contaminated. Truth and purity require that we make more thorough work to cleanse the camp of Achans. Let those in responsible positions not suffer sin in a brother. Show him that he must either put away his sin or be SEPARATED from the church," Testimonies, vol. 5, 147.

Those who know the truth are to be worked by the Holy Spirit, and not themselves to try to work the Spirit. If the cords are drawn much tighter, if the rules are made much finer, if men continue to bind their fellow-laborers closer and closer to the commandments of men, MANY WILL BE STIRRED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD TO BREAK EVERY SHACKLE, AND ASSERT THEIR LIBERTY IN CHRIST JESUS." E.G. White, Review and Herald, vol, 3, p. 275.

"We are to unify, but not on a platform of error." E.G. White, Special Testimonies, Series B, #2, p. 47.

The church in Ellen White's day had not committed the Omega of Apostasy by forming a NEW MOVEMENT ORGANIZATION "among" within the church that has now "removed God," Selected Messages, vol. 1, 204-5.

The church had not formed an ecumenical liaison with Babylon's associations, counsels, girdings and confederacies, Isa. 8:9-20. We have proven in other sections of this WebSite that the professing SDA church is now so linked. Ellen White gave clear instruction in case such an eventuality should ensue:

"They that forsake the law praise the wicked.' Proverbs 28:4. When those who are uniting with the world, yet claimin great purity, plead for union with those who have ever been the opposers of the cause of truth, we should fear and shun them as decidedly as did Nehemiah. Such counsel is prompted b the enemy of all good. It is the speech of timeservers, and should be resisted as resolutely today as them. Whatever influence would tend to unsettle the faith of god's people in His guiding power, should be steadfastly withstood." E.G. White, Prophets and Kings, p. 661. Ron Beaulieu
