Chap. 212 - The Church Does Not Fall

     In that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more lean upon him that smote them, but will lean upon the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God. Isa. 10:20, 21, R.S.V. {RC 226.1}

     In vision I saw two armies in terrible conflict. One army was led by banners bearing the world's insignia; the other was led by the bloodstained banner of Prince Immanuel. Standard after standard was left to trail in the dust as company after company from the Lord's army joined the foe and tribe after tribe from the ranks of the enemy united with the commandment-keeping people of God. An angel flying in the midst of heaven put the standard of Immanuel into many hands, while a mighty general cried out with a loud voice: "Come into line. Let those who are loyal to the commandments of God and the testimony of Christ now take their position. Come out from among them, and be ye separate." . . . {RC 226.2}

     The battle raged. Victory alternated from side to side. Now the soldiers of the cross gave way, "as when a standardbearer fainteth" (Isa. 10:18). But their apparent retreat was but to gain a more advantageous position. Shouts of joy were heard. A song of praise to God went up, and angel voices united in the song, as Christ's soldiers planted His banner on the walls of fortresses till then held by the enemy. The Captain of our salvation was ordering the battle and sending support to His soldiers. His power was mightily displayed, encouraging them to press the battle to the gates. He taught them terrible things in righteousness as He led them on step by step, conquering and to conquer. {RC 226.3}

     At last the victory was gained. The army following the banner with the inscription, "The commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus," was gloriously triumphant.--Testimonies, vol. 8, p. 41. {RC 226.4}

     There are many doctrines current in our world. There is many a religion current that numbers its thousands and tens of thousands, but there is but one that bears the superscription and the stamp of God. There is a religion of man and a religion of God. We must have our souls riveted to the eternal Rock. . . . {RC 226.5}

     Satan will work his miracles to deceive; he will set up his power as supreme. The church may appear as about to fall, but it does not fall. It remains, while the sinners in Zion will be sifted out--the chaff separated from the precious wheat. This is a terrible ordeal, but nevertheless it must take place. None but those who have been overcoming by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony will be found with the loyal and true, without spot or stain of sin, without guile in their mouths. We must be divested of our self-righteousness and arrayed in the righteousness of Christ.--Selected Messages, book 2, pp. 379, 380. {RC 226.6}

Ron’s Commentary: Obviously, the church that does not fall is the church triumphant, not the church militant. The church without guile in its mouth is the 144,000, Revelation 14:1-4. That is Zion, the bride of Christ, that is married, Isaiah 62:1-5.

The church militant cannot be the bride of Christ because she has tares and the dross (tares) is gathered into the midst’s of Jerusalem for burning, Ezekiel 22:17-31. That is why Ezekiel 9 begins at His Sanctuary, Testimonies, Vol. 5, 211 and Ezekiel 9.

Who is it that smotes? Who do they smote? Who does God say is without guile in their mouths?

·       Who is it that smotes? It is not only the Babylonian churches.

·       Who smotes whom? It is God’s church that smotes the faithful. Ellen White reapplies Matthew 22:1-10 to our day in Sermon and Talks, Vol. 1, pp. 4-9. Notice who smotes whom in those verses. It was the apostate Jews (Jerusalem) who (first) treated Jesus’ servants spitefully and slew them. The remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more lean upon him that smote them, but will lean upon the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.

·       What did the remnant do in the type of Matthew 22:1-10?

 Isa 37:31 And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:

 Isa 37:32 For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.

Mat 22:1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,

Mat 22:2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,   Mat 22:3

And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.

Mat 22:4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and [my] fatlings [are] killed, and all things [are] ready: come unto the marriage.

Mat 22:5 But they made light of [it], and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:

Mat 22:6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated [them] spitefully, and slew [them].

Mat 22:7 But when the king heard [thereof], he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

Mat 22:8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.

Mat 22:9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.

Mat 22:10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

Conclusion: The SDA church militant (wheat and tare co-ed church) thinks it is the church from which the tares will be shaken to leave it the purged and purified SDA church triumphant. That is not true, for Ellen White said another literal manifestation of Ezekiel 9 will begin at His Sanctuary, which is modern-day Jerusalem, the House of Jacob, Testimonies, Vol. 5, 211 and Ezekiel 9 as well as Matthew 22:7, which Ellen White reapplies to our day.

 Clearly, if the tares (dross) was shaken out of the SDA church militant, it would not experience an Ezekiel 9 destruction of men, maidens and little children perishing without mercy.
