The Identity and Purpose of the Holy Spirit From Scripture and Ellen White

By the Holy Spirit, Christ is now present in all the earth. Revelation 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne… stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having…seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

It is this great truth that Satan has hid from the Christian world, and has replaced with a false ‘Comforter’.

Identity--Definition of the Holy Spirit From Scripture and Ellen White

"The reason why the churches are weak and sickly and ready to die, is that the enemy has brought influences of a discouraging nature to bear upon trembling souls. He has sought to shut Jesus from their view as the Comforter, as one who reproves, who warns, who admonishes them, saying, "This is the way, walk ye in it." Christ has all power in heaven and in earth, and he can strengthen the wavering, and set right the erring. He can inspire with confidence, with hope in God; and confidence in God always results in creating confidence in one another". (R& H, August 26, 1890)

Here we find that the enemy, Satan, has sought to shut Jesus from our view as the Comforter, not only as the one who reproves, who warns, who admonishes us, but the One who gave His Divine Life that we might partake of it and have the law, a transcript of His character and Mind, planted in the heart. This was a proviso of the New Testament, never available in the Old Testament under the Old Covenant. Notice how Jeremiah prophesied the New Covenant to come:

Jer 31:33 But this [shall be] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

The New Covenant Realized

Hbr 8:10 For this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Rev 17:17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

"The work of the Holy Spirit is immeasurably great. It is from this source that power and efficiency come to the worker for God; and the holy Spirit is the Comforter, as the personal presence of Christ to the soul." (HM, Nov 1 1893).

Here again Ellen White defines the Holy Spirit as the Comforter and the personal presence of Christ to the soul.

Scripture proof? Yes indeed. John 14:16-18, where Christ says He will send ANOTHER COMFORTER, another person, and then says that other person is himself--His original pre-incarnated life, for He says in verse 18: I will come to you. But Martin says this is only the influence from the Father, not a person at all, not a person resulting from Christ having laid aside His Divine Nature ONLY, life, as a regenerating gift and for an eternal atonement for sin. Kellogg said the same thing in a letter to Arthur Daniels. Thus, Martin Eldon denies the greatest "crowning" sacrifice the Son of God ever made, and without which His death on the cross would have been to no avail except to forever justify sin and confession of sin, because there would not have been the ability to partake of the Divine Nature of Christ. It was not available under the Old Covenant.

Any theory of the Godhead that does not provide for the Incarnation sacrifice of the original life of the Son of God by means of His laying aside of that life and soul (Mind) for us as a regenerating gift, and as an eternal death to that life payment (Atonement) for sin, is denying that any Atonement took place, for the laying aside (death) to that life is what the Everlasting Covenant demands when it specifies that the death of the Testator must take place before the Covenant is of any effect. The trinity doctrine denies this eternal sacrifice, saying that the Holy Spirit is a third person from eternity who is other than the very sacrificed life and soul of the Son of God. Martin Elder's theory that the Holy Spirit is just an essence emanating from the Father, and not a person who life was sacrificed in payment for the wages of sin, which is eternal death, is a doctrine of the Devil. He thus intrudes himself right into the Godhead with a false Holy Spirit, and thus breathes an unholy INFLUENCE on all who so believe.

Why could all this not have been possible under the Old Covenant? Because Christ had not sacrificed His life and soul as a gift to us. Only in the New Testament are we invited to partake of His Divine Nature, because it is that Divine Nature that is the Holy Ghost or what He laid aside as a regenerating gift to us, and for the purpose of making an eternal Atonement for the wages of sin, which is eternal death. Christ died to that pure Divine Nature ONLY NATURE, and came in the form of a servant with another body prepared for Him, and that New Nature was combined with humanity forever.
