The SDA Pioneer Position on the Godhead

Ellen White was often thwarted by men she knew well, such as Uriah Smith and Kellogg. It is believed by some current anti-trinitarians that Prescott, Lacy, Daniels, and EGW's secretary (Marian Davis) at the time (in Australia), worked against Ellen White on the Godhead issue and altered some of her statements to appear favorable to the trinity doctrine. However, those statements, if interpreted to be favorable to the trinity doctrine, make other of her statements on the Godhead contradictory because there are other statements that are contradictory to the Trinity doctrine, and we are supposed to interpret Ellen White and Scripture so that nothing contradicts, and then she says "we cannot be in error."

Just as Froom and friends selected certain statements of Ellen White which seem to imply that Adam took the nature of Adam before the fall, while ignorring some four hundred statements to the contrary, so Froom and friends took about the same number of E.G. White statements on the Godhead (about 6-8) found in the book Evangelism, (compiled by Froom and friends) which seemed to imply that she was teaching the trinity doctrine. Remember, the book Evangelism by Ellen White, is a compilation with subheadings she did not supply. They are supplied by Froom and friends, such as use of the word Trinity. She never used the word in her writings and you will therefore not find it used by her on her CD ROM disc. It was LeRoy Froom who supplied the word trinity in the subheadings of the book Evangelism, as well as the carefully "selected" quotes by Ellen White on the Godhead.

Ellen White did teach a heavenly trio, but her definitions of the Holy Spirit as being the Divine life and soul of Christ, which, at His Incarnation, He laid aside as a crowing gift to us, are totally out of sync with the trinity doctrine because that doctrine does not teach that the third person of the Godhead results from the Son having laid aside His Divine Nature life and soul (Per the demands of the Everlasting Covenant) as a crowing, regenerating gift to us, that we may overcome and be thereby regenerated into the image of God. This is the greatest sacrifice Christ made--even greater than the cross, because it was the "greatest good" crowing gift" according to Ellen Whtie, without which His death on the cross would have been to no avail, because there would have been no eternal cure for sin.

Ellen White was aware, of course, of the semiArian position of her husband and the other pioneers, but she did not differ with that position for a good reason. It is promoted by current day leaders that the semi-Arian position of James White and the other pioneers was inclusive of the belief that Christ was not divine and God. Terry Hill and Russell Holt have proven that as errant. The semi-Arian position of the pioneers consisted in the belief that Christ was subservient to the Father on a voluntary basis. Ellen White concurred on that position when she said that the Son laid aside His Royal robes to assume humanity. But at the same time, she and the pioneers believed that the Son was God. She said Jesus was Jehovah. You can verify that on her CD Rom disc.

Ellen White taught exactly as I do, but the ministering brethren did not understand, just as they do not understand today (The Upward Look, 152, and Isaiah 56:10-12). Both Ellen White and God said that the "dumb dog" watchmen do not understand the issue. That is why it has grown to be the greatest of abominations as the Omega of Apostasy, and will continue as such until Chirst comes. Nothing will be allowed to stand in its way, Selected Messages, Vol. 1, 204-5. No independent ministry will ever be so powerful as to "allow nothing to stand in its way." But the apostate New Movement--New Organization SDA Church is that powerful!

Ellen White never supported trinitarianism. That is evident from her husbands position until his death as well as the position of J.N. Andrews until his death. As I said, there was no need to warn the pioneers against semi-Arianism, because the pioneers were right on that issue. Scripture says that Christ came forth from the bosom of the Father and Ellen White applies that to mean when He came forth at His Incarnation. He was not created and was of the same substance as the Father. Therefore, He was regarded as God.

The Godhead was not an issue until the Kellogg crisis, and Ellen White did what she could to meet that crisis. She did meet it! That crisis had to do directly with the personality and presence of God. So does the omega of that crisis, Selected Messages, Book 1, 201-2 and 204.

Ellen White's Desire of Ages statements (below) that the Holy Spirit is the life and soul of Christ, is a stark refutation of the Trinity doctrine. She never altered those statements. Even though Marian Davis, Lacy, Daniels and Prescott may have tried to thwart her meaning, they were not deft enough to catch everything and God preserved the most powerful statements of Ellen White in Desire of Ages.

If the ministering brethren did not understand that statement in her day, and the certainly still do not understand to this day, that is only a total fulfillment of her statement that they were looking on and did not seem to understand (The Upward Look, 152), and Isaiah 56:10-12, which she reapplied to current times in Testimonies, vol. 5, 211.

A continuum of that lack of ability to understand on the part of the dumb-dog watchman, would only promote a continuum of the crisis to reach a point of Omega apostasy and heresy as now accrues. The Omega signifies the end. We are in the end-time and the Omega is in full bloom, just as Ellen White prophesied. Faithful servants are trying to meet it, but nothing will be allowed to stand in its way (Selected Messages, vol. 1, 204-5). That is one of the abominations for which Jerusalem will be destroyed--it has returned to the iniquities of its forefathers, Jeremiah 11:9-15, and the flesh is passed from her--verse 15.

Ellen White's Definition of the Holy Spirit Agrees With God's

What Was the Landmark SDA Teaching Concerning the Identity of the Holy Spirit? "The Power of God in the Third Person.--The prince of the power of evil can only be held in check by the power of God in the third person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit.-- Special Testimonies, Series A, No. 10, p. 37. (1897).

Acts 3:26 Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

The Bible says that it is Jesus, God's Son, whom the Father sent to bless us, turning away every one of you from his iniquities. The "power of evil" is synonymous with iniquity, so unless Ellen White disagreed with the Bible, and she did not, we know that the Son is the Holy Spirit--which is the ONLY agency which holds in check the prince of the power of evil or iniquity.

Did Ellen White Say that the Holy Spirit was Christ?

"Christ declared that after his ascension, he would send to his church, as his crowning gift, the Comforter, who was to take his place. This Comforter is the Holy Spirit,--the soul of his life, the efficacy of his church, the light and life of the world. With his Spirit Christ sends a reconciling influence and a power that takes away sin. In the gift of the Spirit [HIS LIFE--THE SOUL OF HIS LIFE], Jesus gave to man the highest good that heaven could bestow.... The Spirit was given as a regenerating agency, and without this the sacrifice of Christ would have been of no avail.... It is by the Spirit that the heart is made pure. Through the Spirit the believer becomes a partaker of the divine nature. Christ has given his Spirit as a divine power to overcome all hereditary and cultivated tendencies to evil, and to impress his own character upon the church." E.G. White, Review and Herald Articles, May 19, 1904, vol. 5, p. 42.

"The Holy Spirit is the breath of spiritual life in the soul. The impartation of the Spirit is the impartation of the life of Christ. It imbues the receiver with the attributes of Christ. Only those who are thus taught of God, those who possess the inward working of the Spirit, and in whose life the Christ-life is manifested, are to stand as representative men, to minister in behalf of the church." Desire of Ages, 805.

"Christ gives them the breath of HIS OWN SPIRIT, the life of HIS OWN LIFE. The HOLY SPIRIT puts forth its highest energies to work in the heart and mind." Desire of Ages, 827.

Thus we have the landmark pillar doctrine teaching of the pioneers concerning the Godhead. It becomes clear that any other doctrine would work total despite to the Atonement and the Sanctuary doctrine as well at the terms of the Everlasting Covenant, which demanded the death of the Testator. James White and J.N. Andrews (and other pioneers) recognized this truth. At His Incarnation, Christ sacrificed (laid aside) His Divine Nature life and soul for us as a regenerating gift. This was like death to that pre-Incarnation life. That satisfied the demand of the Everlasting Covenant that the Testator of that Covenant experience death. Thus, we are invited by Scripture to partake of the Divine Nature of Christ, which He sacrificed (laid aside) as a "crowing--greatest good gift" to us, rather than the Divine--human nature of Christ, which is the nature accrued to Him after the Incarnation.

The 144,000 will discern and receive this truth because they will need it in order to reach the standard of overcoming that they reach. One is not necessarily one of the 144,000 because he/she discerns and believes this truth concerning the Godhead, but the 144,000 will certainly do so.
