Is the SDA Church Getting Better Than it Was in Ellen White's Day?Click to go to our Home PageDear Reader, The New Theology advocates, spurn and mock this
condition for salvation, teaching that all one has to do is believe. Out of
one side of their mouths they say that they are not teaching mental assent
only, but out of the other side they say that works are only the fruit of
being justified and that works of sanctification, even those empowered by the
Holy Spirit, are not efficacious or meritorious toward our salvation. That
leaves only one thing friend, THE DOCTRINE OF THE NICOLAITANS, ONLY BELIEVE,
verbal assent to the words I believe. Two of the most Biblically instructive examples of
the part works play as CONDITIONS for justification, are the story of the
rich young ruler and the absolute requirement to sigh and cry for all the
abominations as instructed in Ezekiel 9. Amazingly, some SDA’s are saying that the church is
getting better and that some of Ellen White’s statements about the condition
of the church following in the same path of ancient Israel are not longer
valid. The purpose of this document is to explore this issue. Is the church
in fact getting better than it was in Ellen White’s day? In light of the following statements by Ellen White,
is it likely that the church will get better and reform from all the
abominations we are supposed to sigh and cry for? I am not going to give the
quotes that substantiate all of the following abominations. They exist in
various documents on my Website and may be searched out using the intra-site
search engine, but I will deal with a couple of the most misunderstood. The
following list is by no means exhaustive. For one reason, Ellen White said
that by far we do not know the worst sins. They are hidden: “The abominations for which the faithful ones were
sighing and crying were all that could be discerned by finite eyes, but by far the worst sins, those
which provoked the jealousy of the pure and holy God, were unrevealed.” Testimonies, Vol. 5, 211. · Returning to the iniquities of our forefathers—the
fallen churches, Jeremiah 11:9-15. · The teaching of two different gospels and books of a
new order teaching the false gospel. · The adoption of the Trinity Doctrine, which Rome
brags is her “Central Doctrine.” · Laodicea as the foolish virgin state of the church. · Remaining Laodicean no better than fallen churches
says Ellen White. · God and Ellen White’s stating that ALL the ancient
prophets wrote more for us than for the Jews. · Isaiah 4:1-4 saying that seven women (all formally
organized churches) at the end-time will be doing their own thing. · Isaiah 37:31, 32. · Ignoring the Instruction of Ellen White, the gift of
the Holy Spirit to the church. Ellen White
on Primitive Revival in the Church I saw
that the mysterious signs and wonders, and false reformations would increase,
and spread. The reformations that were
shown me, were not reformations from error to truth; but from bad to worse;
for those who professed a change of heart, had only wrapt about them a
religious garb, which covered up the iniquity of a wicked heart. Some
appeared to have been really converted, so as to deceive God's people; but if
their hearts could be seen, they would appear as black as ever. {RH, August
1, 1849 par. 12} For a period of time, I did not believe that the
above statement applied to the professing Seventh-day Adventist church militant
which is the co-ed wheat and tare church which has become the host for thorns
who are described by Scripture and Ellen Whites as opens sinners. Tares are
not open sinners. Ellen White alludes that they are insincere believers whose
motives we would have to judge in order to weed them out of the church. That
is not so with open sinners. Does Ellen White’s 1849 statement above include the
SDA church and its reformations—as going from bad to worse. The Lord has now
shown me that her statement does indeed apply to the church and that the
irrefutable proof for this fact is Ellen White’s statement that every uncouth
thing will be brought into our Campmeetings “just before the close of
probation.” So What
About Ellen White Prophecy Concerning a Primitive Revival in the Church? Professing Seventh-day Adventists have been very
remiss in interpreting Ellen White’s statement concerning a primitive revival
in the churches. They have interpreted that statement to mean that the SDA
church will turn around. That is not the meaning of her statement in any
wise. The statement applies to a primitive revival that will occur IN ALL
CHURCHES, and refers to those who will leave the fallen churches and their
errors during the Loud Cry. The current Celebration Movement in the church is
the counterfeit revival. There will be a primitive revival in all the
churches at the time of the Loud Cry, and all sincere and faithful Christians
will come out of all the fallen churches at that time, including the SDA
fallen church. But we are responsible for light when we are exposed to it and
all who receive the light of all the abominations of apostasy by the SDA
church now, are responsible for responding when they learn of the apostasy,
lest they be corporately responsible for it. Chap. 25 -
The Counterfeit Revival This know also, that in the last days perilous times
shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters,
proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, . . . having
a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2
Tim. 3:1, 2, 5. Before
the final visitation of God's judgments upon the earth there will be among
the people of the Lord such a revival of primitive godliness as has not been
witnessed since apostolic times. The Spirit and power of God will be poured
out upon His children. At that time
many will separate themselves from those churches in which the love of
this world has supplanted love for God and His word. Many, both of
ministers and people, will gladly accept those
great truths which God has caused to be proclaimed at this time to prepare a
people for the Lord's second coming. The enemy of souls desires to hinder
this work; and before the time for such a movement shall come, he will
endeavor to prevent it by introducing a counterfeit. In those churches which he can bring
under his deceptive power he will make it appear that God's special blessing
is poured out; there will be manifest what is thought to be great religious
interest. Multitudes will exult that
God is working marvelously for them, when the work is that of another spirit.
Under a religious guise, Satan will
seek to extend his influence over the Christian world. {Mar 33.1} Ron’s Commentary: Obviously, in reference to
“primitive revival,” Ellen White is speaking of the Pentecostal revival under
the Loud Cry, when sincere folk in ALL CHURCHES, will respond to the repeat
of the Midnight Cry and come out of the fallen churches. Notice: [Rev. 18:1, 2, 4, quoted.] This scripture
points forward to a time when the announcement of the fall of Babylon, as
made by the second angel of Revelation 14 (verse 8), is to be repeated, with the additional mention of the corruptions
which have been entering the various organizations that constitute Babylon,
since that message was first given, in the summer of 1844. . . . These
announcements, uniting with the third angel's message, constitute the final
warning to be given to the inhabitants of the earth. . . . {LDE 199.2} In many
of the revivals which have occurred during the last half century, the same
influences have been at work, to a greater or less degree, that will be
manifest in the more extensive movements of the future. There is an emotional excitement, a mingling of the true with the
false, that is well adapted to mislead. Yet none need be deceived. In the
light of God's word it is not difficult to determine the nature of these
movements. Wherever men neglect the testimony of the Bible, turning away from
those plain, soul-testing truths which require self-denial and renunciation
of the world, there we may be sure that God's blessing is not bestowed. And
by the rule which Christ Himself has given, "Ye shall know them by their
fruits" (Matthew 7:16), it is evident that these movements are not the
work of the Spirit of God. {Mar 33.2} Ron’s Commentary: It is a reprehensible abomination
in and of itself that professing Seventh-day Adventists have misinterpreted
the above statement on primitive godliness to mean that the apostate church militant
would reform and become the SDA church triumphant. Nothing could be further
from the truth. End commentary. The Church
Triumphant has Always Existed in Every Age Zion is the church triumphant which has always existed to come to
the aid of any valid church militant in any and every age: "The members of the church triumphant--the church in
heaven--will be permitted to draw near to the members of the church militant,
to aid them in their necessity." E. G. White, The Southern Watchman,
