I asked the Lord to show me the answer to this
issue which has been raging for centuries. It is thought even by some
professing Seventh-day Adventists, even some SDA reformers, that the Bible
teaches Geocentricity. If that is the case, then Ellen White would be at
serious variance with the Bible. For me and my house, this document confirms
the irrefutable truth that the earth moves and thus corroborates Ellen White’s
statements that the earth moves around the sun. If the earth was stationary, a
pendulum would move in the same course every cycle relative to a measuring
device below its traverse route, but that does not occur.
Geocentrists
http://www.geocentricity.com/ believe that they have an air-tight case based on the
following bible statements:
“The second of these two concerns: how the
Bible's authority is weakened by heliocentrism; stems from the firm manner in which
the Bible teaches Geocentricity. Geocentric verses range from those with only a
positional import, such as references to "up" and "down;"
through the question of just what the earth was "orbiting" the first
three days while it awaited the creation of the sun; to overt references such
as Ecclesiastes 1, verse 5:
The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down,
and hasteth to his place where he arose.
Perhaps the strongest geocentric verse in the
Bible is Joshua 10:13:
And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed,
until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written
in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and
hasted not to go down about a whole day.
Here the Moderator of Scripture, the Holy
Ghost Himself, endorses the daily movement of the sun and moon. After all, God
could just as well have written: "And the earth stopped turning, so that
the sun appeared to stand still, and the moon seemed to stay ... ." That
wording would be no more "confusing" to the reader than anything in
Job chapters 38 through 41. There are those who would claim that the language
used is phenomenological, that it was not meant to convey the truth of the
matter. They like to equate Joshua 10:13 with verses like Isaiah 55:12 where
the trees are said to "clap their hands." The problem with that is
that everyone since Adam can understand that Isaiah 55:12 is a literary device;
but there is not a clue to tell those before Copernicus that Joshua 10:13 is
not to be taken literally.”
Indeed, at first thought, the Geocentrists
seem to have a loophole free argument! We will treat the above Bible verses
further along in this document. But first, let us examine some evidence in
another direction.
At this link: http://lhsgems.org/rotates.html notice the following statement:
“It fell to French physicist Leon Foucault to
offer indisputable proof of Earth's
rotation. He did so in a novel manner. Realizing that the free fall of a weight
was difficult to measure accurately, he began experimenting in his cellar using
a 2-meter pendulum with a 5-kilogram bob.
On February 3, 1851 he presented his experiment to his
colleagues, and Prince Louis Bonaparte asked him to give a public
demonstration. The scene could hardly have been more dramatic. Foucault set up
a pendulum more than 60 meters long hanging from the domed ceiling of the
Pantheon in Paris. The pendulum never retraced its path as each swing deviated to
the right, which meant that the floor of the Pantheon was moving! Foucault had
at last provided the first dynamical proof of Earth's rotation. Foucault
pendulums now hold a place of honor in science museums worldwide.”

pendulum at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foucault_pendulum
Ellen
White on the Movement of the Earth
"This is false science; there is nothing
in the word of God to sustain it. God does not annul His laws, but He is
continually working through them, using them as His instruments. They are not
self-working. God is perpetually at work in nature. She is His servant,
directed as He pleases. Nature in her work testifies of the intelligent
presence and active agency of a being who moves in all His works according to
His will. It is not by an original power inherent in nature that year by
year the earth yields its bounties and continues its march around the sun. The hand of
infinite power is perpetually at work guiding this planet. It is God’s power
momentarily exercised that keeps it in position in its rotation." {8T
259.4}
"The Levites, in their hymn recorded by
Nehemiah, sung, “Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the
heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things therein, ...
and thou preservest them all.” [Nehemiah 9:6.] As regards this world, God’s
work of creation is completed. For “the works were finished from the foundation
of the world.” [Hebrews 4:3.] But his energy is still exerted in upholding the
objects of his creation. It is not because the mechanism that has once been set
in motion continues to act by its own inherent energy, that the pulse beats,
and breath follows breath; but every breath, every pulsation of the heart is an
evidence of the all-pervading care of Him in whom “we live, and move, and have
our being.” [Acts 17:28.] It is not because of inherent power that year by year the earth
produces her bounties, and continues her motion around the sun. The hand of
God guides the planets, and keeps them in position in their orderly march
through the heavens. He “bringeth out their host by number; he calleth them all
by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one
faileth.” [Isaiah 40:26.] It is through his power that vegetation flourishes,
that the leaves appear, and the flowers bloom. He “maketh grass to grow upon
the mountains,” and by him the valleys are made fruitful. All the beasts of the
field seek their meat from God, [Psalm 147:8; 104:20, 21.] and every living
creature, from the smallest insect up to man, is daily dependent upon his
providential care. In the beautiful words of the psalmist, “These wait all upon
thee.... That thou givest them they gather; thou openest thine hand, they are
filled with good.” [Psalm 104:27, 28.] His word controls the elements, he
covers the heavens with clouds, and prepares rain for the earth. “He giveth
snow like wool; he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes.” “When he uttereth his voice,
there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapors to
ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth
forth the wind out of his treasures.” [Psalm 147:16; Jeremiah 10:13.] {CE

I know of an SDA who prefers the teachings of Hildegard von Bingen, over the gift of prophecy to the
church via Ellen White. Hildegard von Bingen was a Catholic false prophet. We
are so blessed to have a true prophet in Ellen G. White.

From
the above link: “The woman was Hildegard von Bingen, the eleventh century
German mystic and Benedictine Abbess whom some call “The most gifted woman of
the epoch.” She was born in 1098 and died at the age of 81, in 1179. Her
complete story is truly amazing, but, of course, we are only interested in her
cosmological revelations.”
To
some, even SDA’s, the concept of Heliocentricity and its advocates, such as
Ellen White, are foolish. But God uses the weak and uneducated of the world to
confound the “wise” and the “mighty.”
1Cr 1:27 But
God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God
hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are
mighty;
The process of thinking “within the box” only,
via “either/or” thinking, can get us into trouble, for there are often other
options we have not considered. So when we confront a problem that seems to be
at variance with Scripture and/or the Spirit of Prophecy, it is wisest to put
it on the shelf and pray about it until we receive some other “irrefutable”
answers that solve the mystery and put all the evidence in a perspective so
that nothing contradicts.
I will take Ellen White’s view over that of Hildegard von Bingen’s!

Movement of the earth and sun
Is it possible that
the earth moves around the sun and the sun moves around the earth; that BOTH
are correct? I don't like entering such disputes as cannot be proven, but this
is food for thought. Ellen White speaks of the earth moving around the sun. The
Bible mentions the sun being made to stand still at a certain time. Could both
be correct? Personally, I would rather stick with salvific issues, but all are
free to discuss this issue as they wish.

How might the sun stop?
The sun may have stopped
because the earth stopped or the earth and/or sun/earth slowed in relative
motion of one another if both move.
Addendum:
Galileo was right. Rome, the false
prophet and her false prophets were/are wrong. And should we suspect the truth
about Rome to be anything else!?
"In a Letter to the Grand Duchess
Christina, Galileo defended heliocentrism, and
claimed it was not contrary to Scriptures (see Galileo
affair). He took Augustine's position on Scripture: not to take
every passage literally when the scripture in question is a book of poetry and
songs, not a book of instructions or history. The
writers of the Scripture wrote from the perspective of the terrestrial world,
and from that vantage point the sun does rise and set. In fact, it is the
Earth's rotation which gives the impression of the sun in motion across the
sky."
