What if SDA Answers to Questions on Doctrines, The Beginning of Abominations of the SDA Church, Had Never Been Written?

1.   "Official Adventism may have gained recognition as being Christian from the evangelical world, but in the process a breach had been opened which has not healed in the last 50 years and may never heal."[16] Conservative Herbert Douglassagreed, "most, if not all, of the so-called 'dissident' or 'independent' groups of the last 45 years are direct results of the explicit and implicit positions espoused by [Questions on Doctrine] on the atonement and the Incarnation."[17]

Elder Herbert E. Douglass gave a talk to the Sacramento, California Seventh-day Adventist church. In the video made of his meeting, Elder Douglass makes the uncategorical statement that if the book Answers to Questions on Doctrine had never been written, there would be no independent ministries, implying that there are no other abominations committed by the church which would give rise to independent ministries. In 2008, Elder Douglass published a book entitled A Fork in the Road: Questions on Doctrine, The Historic Adventist Divide of 1957, which implies the same thing.

How could a leader with the experience of Dr. Herbert E. Douglass ever begin to conclude that the only apostasy of the SDA church is the book of a new order: SDA Answer to Questions on Doctrines? How could he conclude that there is no other apostasy of the church that justifies the protest of SDA Independent Ministries?

What about the other ways by which the Spirit of Prophecy says that the church could, and indeed has fallen, such as:

"If the church of God becomes LUKEWARM [LAODICEAN] it does not stand in favor with God any more than do the churches that are represented as having fallen and become the habitation of devils and the hold of every foul spirit and the cage of every unclean and hateful bird. Those who have had opportunities to hear and receive the truth, and who have united with the Seventh-day Adventist church, calling themselves the commandment keeping people of God, and yet possess no more vitality and consecration to God than do the nominal churches, will receive of the plagues of God just as verily as the churches who oppose the law of God." E.G. White, Letter 35, 1898.

Wax stronger "One thing it is certain is soon to be realized, the great apostasy, which is developing and increasing and waxing stronger, and will continue to do so until the Lord shall descend from heaven with a shout. We are to hold fast the first principles of our denominated faith, and go forward from strength to increased faith. Ever we are to keep the faith that has been substantiated by the Holy Spirit of God from the earlier events of our experience until the present time. We need now larger breadth, and deeper, more earnest, unwavering faith in the leadings of the Holy Spirit. If we needed the manifest proof of the Holy Spirit's power to confirm truth in the beginning, after the passing of the time, we need to-day all the evidence in the confirmation of the truth, when souls are departing from the faith and giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. There must not be any languishing of soul now." (E.G. White, Special Testimonies, Series B, No. 7, p. 57).

"We must as a people arouse and cleanse the camp of Israel. Licentiousness, unlawful intimacy, and unholy practices are coming in among us in a large degree...We are in danger of becoming a sister to fallen Babylon, of allowing our churches to become corrupted and filled with every foul spirit, a cage for every unclean and hateful bird, and will we be clear unless we make decided movements to cure the existing evil? E. G. White, Manuscript Releases No. 449, pp. 17, 18. (Letter 51, 1886 to Elder Butler) Testimonies on Sexual Behavior, Adultery, and Divorce, p. 193.

Would it be indicative of “lunatic fringe mentality” if one concluded that if the apostasy waxes stronger until the Lord comes, it is safe to conclude that the unlawful licentiousness and unholy practices will continue so that the church will become a sister to fallen Babylon, a cage for every unclean and hateful bird—language used to define Babylon per Rev. 18?; that Laodicea does not repent; that only some individuals will repent and come out of Laodicea, because it is impossible to unite with the corrupt and remain pure in order to ripen as wheat for the heavenly garner, or was the Holy Spirit just trying to take up writing space when this quote was penned?

"It is IMPOSSIBLE for you to unite with those who are corrupt, and still remain pure. (II Corinthians 6:14-15 quoted). God and Christ and the heavenly host would have men know that if he unites with the corrupt he will become corrupt." E. G. White, Review and Herald, Vol. 4, p. 137.

"The enemy will set everything in operation to uproot the confidence of the believers in the pillars of our faith in the messages of the past, which have placed us upon the elevated platform of eternal truth, and which have established and given character to the work. The Lord God of Israel has led out His people, unfolding to them truth of heavenly origin." "The truth for this time is precious, but those whose hearts have not been broken by falling on the Rock Christ Jesus, will not see and understand what is truth. They will accept that which pleases their ideas, and will begin to manufacture another foundation than that which is laid. They will flatter their own vanity and esteem, thinking that they are capable of removing the pillars of our faith, and replacing them with pillars they have devised. This will continue to be as long as time shall last." Notebook, Leaflets, pp. 61-62.

“The enemy of souls has sought to bring in the supposition that a great reformation was to take place among Seventh-day Adventists, and that this reformation would consist in giving up the doctrines which stand as the pillars of our faith, and engaging in a process of reorganization. Were this reformation to take place, what would result? The principles of truth that God in His wisdom has given to the remnant church, would be discarded. Our religion would be changed. The fundamental principles that have sustained the work for the last fifty years would be accounted as error. A NEW ORGANIZATION would be established. Books of a NEW ORDER would be written. A system of [HUMAN] intellectual philosophy would be introduced. The founders of this system would go into the cities, and do a wonderful work. The Sabbath of course, would be lightly regarded, as also the God who created it. Nothing would be allowed to stand in the way of the NEW MOVEMENT. The leaders would teach that virtue is better than vice, but GOD BEING REMOVED, they would place their dependence on human power, which, without God, is worthless. Their foundation would be built on the sand, and storm and tempest would sweep away the structure.

Who has authority to begin such a [NEW] movement? We have our Bibles, we have our experience, attested to by the miraculous working of the Holy Spirit. We have a truth that admits of no compromise. Shall we not repudiate everything that is not in harmony with this truth? E.G. White, Selected Messages, Vol. 1, 204, 205.

The Apostasy of the Trinity Doctrine

In the Alpha of Apostasy, which had everything to do with the personality of God and Christ, the ministering brethren, like Dr. Herbert E. Douglass, were looking on, but did not seem to understand that Kellogg’s theory on the Godhead did away with the Sanctuary and the Atonement, and the entire foundation of our faith. That very same thing has happened with the Omega of Apostasy, but still, ministering brethren like Dr.’s George R. Knight and Herbert E. Douglass don’t seem to understand!

Some independent ministry leaders, like Robert Sessler and Nicholas Petula say it is impossible to understand this truth of the Godhead. Evidently, they fall in the class of the ministering brethren who cannot discern what God’s Word plainly tells us about the Godhead. They fall in the category of Isaiah 56:10-12, for they cannot understand. This means that their followers cannot appreciate the full truth of the Incarnation sacrifice of Christ in the heavenly Sanctuary Atonement, that is in addition to the sacrifice on the cross because their leaders cannot and/or refuse to understand clear instruction from the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy on this all important issue. Ellen White says this issue means everything to us and that it is a pillar, landmark doctrine. Isn’t it strange that these independent ministry leaders teach that a pillar, landmark doctrine cannot be understood?

Sanctuary Gone Atonement Gone -- "In a representation which passed before me, I saw a certain work being done by medical missionary workers. Our ministering brethren were looking on, watching what was being done, but they did not seem to understand. The foundation of our faith, which was established by so much prayer, such earnest searching of the Scriptures, was being taken down, pillar by pillar. Our faith was to have nothing to rest upon--the sanctuary was gone, the atonement was gone." E.G. White, The Upward Look, 152.

Kellogg’s view of the Godhead taught that the Holy Spirit was in all created things from eternity. Were that true, the Holy Spirit would already have been in all of us, and there would have been no need of the Sanctuary/Incarnation/Atonement, whereby the Son of God divested His Holy Spirit HIMSELF from the personality of His humanity and His Holy Spirit soul of His life became an independent person thereof. That act made THREE PERSONS to the Godhead, where there had only been two prior to the Incarnation.

"Cumbered with humanity Christ could not be in every place personally, therefore it was altogether for their advantage that He should leave them to go to His Father and send the Holy Spirit to be His successor on earth. The Holy Spirit is Himself divested of the personality of humanity and independent thereof. He would represent Himself as present in all places by His Holy Spirit.” E.G. White, (Manuscript Releases Volume 14 (No’s 1081-1135) MR No.1084.

"Christ declared that after his ascension, he would send to his church, as his crowning gift, the Comforter, who was to take his place. This Comforter is the Holy Spirit,--the soul of his life, the efficacy of his church, the light and life of the world. With his Spirit Christ sends a reconciling influence and a power that takes away sin.

In the gift of the Spirit, Jesus gave to man the highest good that heaven could bestow....

The Spirit was given as a regenerating agency, and without this the sacrifice of Christ would have been of no avail....

It is by the Spirit that the heart is made pure. Through the Spirit the believer becomes a partaker of the divine nature. Christ has given his Spirit as a divine power to overcome all hereditary and cultivated tendencies to evil, and to impress his own character upon the church." E.G. White, Review and Herald Articles, May 19, 1904, vol. 5, p. 42.

“Christ had stooped to take upon Himself man's nature; He was to bear an infinite weight of woe as He should make His soul an offering for sin; yet angels desired that even in His humiliation the Son of the Highest might appear before men with a dignity and glory befitting His character. Would the great men of earth assemble at Israel's capital to greet His coming? Would legions of angels present Him to the expectant company?” The Great Controversy, pp. 313, 314.

Christ divested His Holy Spirit PERSON from His humanity that we might partake of His Divine Nature for overcoming sin. That is the cure for sin, whereas the cross redeemed us from sin by Christ taking them all upon Himself as the sacrificial Lamb.

“In view of all that Christ has suffered for us, should we complain when we are called to endure self-denial and suffering? Would not this make God ashamed of us? Let us rejoice that it is our privilege to be partakers in the sufferings of Christ, for thus only can we be fitted to be partakers of His glory.... Let us live lives that will lead sinners to the Saviour. Christ carried His humanity with Him into the heavenly courts, and all humanity can claim Him as their representative. We may be made complete in Him.”—Manuscript 58, “The Work in Washington,” a talk given May 19, 1905. {UL 153.5}

From the above statement alone, it should be clear that the human nature of Christ and the Godhead are inseparable issues.

There is the Father. There is Christ—the fully Divine Holy Spirit soul of His life. And there is Jesus’ person as a fully human being. That makes THREE persons to the Godhead.

The Trinity Doctrine teaches that there were three persons in heaven from all eternity! Were that true, since the time the Incarnation took place, there would be four! That doctrine obviates the heavenly Sanctuary Incarnation Atonement Sacrifice whereby a third person accrued to the Godhead AFTER the Incarnation, and not before.

Thus, the Trinity Doctrine achieves the same end as Kellogg’s pantheism. Pantheism accrued three persons to the Godhead WITHOUT the Incarnation sacrifice that produced a third person.

The Trinity Doctrine obfuscates the heavenly Sanctuary Incarnation Atonement whereby a third person was added to the Godhead, namely the humanity of Christ, carried into heaven and seated on the throne of God with Christ—by teaching that a third person existed as part of the Godhead from eternity! It is strange indeed that leaders in the SDA church who have their doctorate in theology, cannot count to three. They thereby sweep away the entire Christian economy by expunging the Sanctuary/Incarnation/Atonement in the heavenly Sanctuary.

"The spiritualistic theories regarding the personality of God [the Godhead], followed to their logical conclusion, sweep away the whole Christian economy. They estimate as nothing the light that Christ came from heaven to give John to give to His people. They teach that the scenes just before us are not of sufficient importance to be given special attention. They make of no effect the truth of heavenly origin, and rob the people of God of their past experience, giving them instead a false science." E.G. White, 1SM, p. 204.

Pantheism and the Trinity Doctrine are spiritualistic theories of man regarding the personality of God and Christ (who is God in the highest sense says Ellen White). They both sweep away the entire Christian economy by negating the heavenly Sanctuary Incarnation Atonement Sacrifice whereby a third person rightfully accrued in the person of the humanity of Jesus Christ.

"Those who seek to remove the old landmarks are not holding fast they are not remembering how they have received and heard. Those who try to bring in theories that would remove the pillars of our faith concerning the sanctuary or concerning the personality of God or of Christ, are working as blind men. They are seeking to bring in uncertainties and to set the people of God adrift without an anchor." {MR760 9.5}

A New Order

"A new order of things has COME INTO the ministry. There is a desire to pattern after other churches and simplicity and humility are almost unknown. The young ministers seek to be original, and to introduce new ideas and new plans for labor. Some open revival meetings, and by this means call large numbers into the church. But when the excitement is over, where are the converted ones? Repentance and confession of sin are not seen. The sinner is entreated to believe in Christ and accept Him, without regard to his past life of sin and rebellion. The heart is not broken. There is no contrition of soul. The supposed converted ones have not fallen upon the Rock, Christ Jesus." E.G. White, Selected Messages, vol. 2, pp. 18, 19.

The above is also an example of Calvinism--believing one is chosen and destined to be saved without being truly converted without true repentance and confession of sin without regard to his past life of sin and rebellion; without a broken on the Rock heart, without contrition of soul.

How in the world men of the caliber of Herbert Douglass can’t see abominations other than those in Questions on Doctrines, that justify the cries of truth teaching Independent Ministries, is difficult to comprehend. But I believe Isaiah 56:10-12 is the answer.

Note the following quote from one of Elder Douglass’ books:

“Let it be resolved, that in view of the evidence presented, the book Seventh-day Adventists Answer Questions on Doctrine does not represent the faith and belief of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and is hereby repudiated on the following five points:

1)     It contains specimens of scholastic and intellectual dishonesty.

2)     It contains duplicity.

3)     It is inadequate.

4)     It contains error.

        5)     It is Satan’s masterpiece of strategy to defeat the purpose of God for the Seventh-day Adventist Church.  A Fork in the Road, 160 pages | Remnant Publications, distributed by Review and Herald Publishing | Copyright 2008.

Modern-day Pharisees and Sadducees

I once read a statement by Ellen White to the effect that we lack nothing by way of Pharisees and Sadducees today. I can’t find the statement, but the following ones will do:

“Basil, Switzerland, December 8, 1886. Dear Brethren (G. I.) Butler and (S. N.) Haskell: For weeks I have not been able to sleep after half past three o'clock. My mind is deeply exercised in regard to our condition as a people. We ought to be far in advance of any other people on the earth because we have greater light and greater knowledge of the truth, which lays us under increased accountability to advance that light and not only to profess to believe the truth but to practice it. When we do practice the truth we are then following Jesus, who is the light of the world; and if we as a people are not constantly elevating, becoming more and more spiritual minded, we are becoming like the Pharisees-self-righteous - while we do not the will of God.”

Unpardonable Sin -- "They [the Pharisees] attributed to satanic agencies the holy power of God, manifested in the works of Christ. Thus the Pharisees sinned against the Holy Ghost. Stubborn, sullen, iron hearted, they determined to close their eyes to all evidence, and thus they committed the unpardonable sin." E.G. White, RH Jan. 18, 1898. SDA Bible Commentary, vol. 5. p. 1092.

“As the people go to their former teachers with the eager inquiry, are these things so? the ministers present fables, prophesy smooth things, to soothe their fears and quiet the awakened conscience. But since many refuse to be satisfied with the mere authority of men and demand a plain "Thus saith the Lord," the popular ministry, like the Pharisees of old, filled with anger as their authority is questioned, will denounce the message as of Satan and stir up the sin-loving multitudes to revile and persecute those who proclaim it.” The Great Controversy, p. 606-7.

“Christ foresaw that the undue assumption of authority indulged by the scribes and Pharisees would not cease with the dispersion of the Jews. He had a prophetic view of the work of exalting human authority to rule the conscience, which has been so terrible a curse to the church in all ages. And His fearful denunciations of the scribes and Pharisees, and His warnings to the people not to follow these blind leaders, were placed on record as an admonition to future generations." The Great Controversy, p. 596.

Here is a bulleted list of some of the many abominations for which Independent Ministries should be sighing and crying, in addition to Questions on Doctrine:

·       1888 still being rejected. Church still Laodicean.

·       The Sanctuary

·       The Investigative Judgment

·       5T 211

·       Brought into our camp meetings. [Celebration movement] (Unpardonable sin Jer. 11:9-15).

·       Ecumenism (Isaiah 8:9-16). (Unpardonable sin).

·       Licentiousness. (Sister to fallen Babylon statement).

·       Ellen White on Babylon

·       Laodicea (foolish virgin state of the church which is in no greater favor with God than the fallen churches.

·       The Trinity Doctrine (Unpardonable sin).

·       Desire to be like other churches.

·       New Age Seminars at Loma Linda.

·       Neuro-linguistic Programming.

·       Ellen White said that hypnosis would be used by leaders.

·       Joint Celebration of Easter Sunrise Services.

·       Sunday Divine worship services.

·       Ellen White’s prolepsis statement prophesying the church would fail to fulfill the conditions.

·       Worse than Babylon statement.

·       Spiritualism (Kaiser)

·       Cede to all conclusions of the leaders for the sake of unity.

·       Ellen White’s Counterpart statement.

·       The teaching that we remain with the apostate SDA church no matter what it does along with the error that the bad are removed from the church to leave it the church triumphant. The bad are shaken from and by Zion, the church triumphant. Ezekiel 20:34-38 and Isaiah 37:31, 32.

·       Warning that the leaders will instruct members to keep Sunday sacred. This is based not only on Ellen White’s statement, but Ezekiel chapter 8.

This is a link to some additional abominations with some overlappings. The above list is  not exhaustive by any means!

When you listen to this video presentation, note all the fawning and flattering of men. It seems that to Elder Douglass, all parties to the apostasy eg. Froom and Anderson are GREAT MEN! This is not calling a spade a spade! This is mixing the common with the sacred—the sacred being M.L. Andreasen.
