In the following scenarios we will employ the interpretations of those who interpret that there will be a three and one half year time span for the world after the legislation of the National Sunday Law. I will demonstrate the problems that ensue with that interpretation.

In the study of this material, let us remember that the word sacrifice as used with the word daily is always in italics because it is supplied and not part of the original manuscripts.

In our study we will try to solve questions such as:

·       If the legislation of the National Sunday Law is the same as the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place?

·       If the above is affirmative, then do we flee to the desolate places at the legislation of the Sunday Law as the Jews fled to Pella when the Roman Soldiers ascended upon Jewish soil in A.D. 66?

·       The first point must not be in the affirmative because Ellen White paralleled the National Sunday law with the emergence of the Roman soldiers on Jewish soil so many furlongs from Jerusalem and the Temple, but she said we should then move to smaller towns preparatory to leaving for more secluded places later. So there is a parallel with the Jews leaving for valley area of Pella in A.D. 66, which was surrounded by mountains to which the Jews could flee further if necessary when the onslaught of Titus took place in A.D. 70, to destroy the Temple and Jerusalem proper.

·       Does Sunday legislation constitute the beginning point for a 42 month period before the deliverance of God’s 144,000 from the final death decree designed by Satan to rid the earth of them?

·       Should the 75 day difference between the 1260 days (42 mo.) and the 1335, be placed at the beginning of any charting of the 1335 days to coincide with the 1260 day rule of the beast power of Revelation 13, permitting his reign to extend to the end of the 1335 days?

·       What is the daily? Is it the continual or perpetual covenant of the Sabbath designating God’s people? I believe it is. The removal of the sovereignty of the nations in subservience to the one world order is also involved, as the one world day of worship is tied in with the one world order. There is a definite move to squelch all nationalism.

·       If Sunday legislation constitutes the beginning of the seating of the abomination of desolation and the reign of the beast power reigns for 1260 days, from the time the daily (Sabbath) is removed by the Sunday law, how could that reign of the beast power extend to 1335 days  or even 2300 days or longer?

·       If the beast power that constitutes the abomination of desolation that tramples down a host and the sanctuary for 2300 days as well as 1260 days, what is the resolution for this apparent discrepancy?

Answer:

In all effort at presenting all the evidence, John says that the Gentiles will trod the holy city under foot for forty two months. How do we account for this apparent discrepancy? I answer below.

The holy city does not mean a truly holy city, but a city that is supposed to be holy as Jerusalem was supposed to be.

Rev 11:2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty [and] two months.

Adventists would not be considered Gentiles. They are spiritual Jews. The other fallen churches would be Gentiles trodding down the holy city under foot for 42 months, the first 3 1/2 year period from the LEGISLATION of the Sunday law, NOT ITS ENFORCEMENT.

But in Daniel 8:13, 14, the host (Holy City) is trodden under foot for 2300 days, a longer period of time than the Gentiles trod down the holy city. What is the answer to this apparent contradiction? The answer is that there are two hosts. As in the case with Israel, there was the apostate church host (City/Sanctuary/Jerusalem) and there was True Jerusalem, the faithful Christian church. At the end-time, the apostate church will be destroyed after being trodden down for 1260 days. At that time there will be a 30 day warning (difference between the 1260 and 1290 days) that the Sunday law will be enforced by a death penalty. Babylonians will take advantage of this opportunity to destroy the apostate SDA church per Ezekiel 5, to wit:

 5Thus saith the Lord GOD; This is Jerusalem: I have set it in the midst of the nations and countries that are round about her.

 6And she hath changed my judgments into wickedness more than the nations, and my statutes more than the countries that are round about her: for they have refused my judgments and my statutes, they have not walked in them.

 7Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye multiplied more than the nations that are round about you, and have not walked in my statutes, neither have kept my judgments, neither have done according to the judgments of the nations that are round about you;

 8Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, am against thee, and will execute judgments in the midst of thee in the sight of the nations.

 9And I will do in thee that which I have not done, and whereunto I will not do any more the like, because of all thine abominations.

 10Therefore the fathers shall eat the sons in the midst of thee, and the sons shall eat their fathers; and I will execute judgments in thee, and the whole remnant of thee will I scatter into all the winds.

 11Wherefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD; Surely, because thou hast defiled my sanctuary with all thy detestable things, and with all thine abominations, therefore will I also diminish thee; neither shall mine eye spare, neither will I have any pity.

 12A third part of thee shall die with the pestilence, and with famine shall they be consumed in the midst of thee: and a third part shall fall by the sword round about thee; and I will scatter a third part into all the winds, and I will draw out a sword after them.

 13Thus shall mine anger be accomplished, and I will cause my fury to rest upon them, and I will be comforted: and they shall know that I the LORD have spoken it in my zeal, when I have accomplished my fury in them.

 14Moreover I will make thee waste, and a reproach among the nations that are round about thee, in the sight of all that pass by.

 15So it shall be a reproach and a taunt, an instruction and an astonishment unto the nations that are round about thee, when I shall execute judgments in thee in anger and in fury and in furious rebukes. I the LORD have spoken it.

 16When I shall send upon them the evil arrows of famine, which shall be for their destruction, and which I will send to destroy you: and I will increase the famine upon you, and will break your staff of bread:

 17So will I send upon you famine and evil beasts, and they shall bereave thee: and pestilence and blood shall pass through thee; and I will bring the sword upon thee. I the LORD have spoken it.

The true host, God's army of Joel 2 and 3, the 144,000, who are translated without seeing death, survive longer than the apostate once holy city (the apostate SDA church in this case), to be translated without seeing death.

The murderous city (apostate Jerusalem) is destroyed earlier (Ezekiel 5), so it is not trod down as long as the true and faithful host, the 144,000. The host as the 144,000, are trodden down from the time the church instructs its members to keep Sunday sacred, which is what Ellen White says the leaders will do.

There are two death decrees. The first is a general death decree on day 1290. This is when the many martyrs will occur. Then there is a final death decree whereby Satan attempts to rid the earth of the 144,000 faithful in one night. The saints will be delivered from that death decree.

·       What is the transgression of desolation as compared with the abomination of desolation? Are they the same thing? Could the transgression of desolation

·       As Ellen White reapplies Daniel 11, beginning with verse 31, what is the sanctuary of strength? 31And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.

·        "The Lord has a controversy with His professed people in these last days. In this controversy men in responsible positions will take a course directly opposite to that pursued by Nehemiah. They will not only ignore and despise the Sabbath themselves, but they will try to keep it from others by burying it beneath the rubbish of custom and tradition. In churches and in large gatherings in the open air, ministers will urge upon the people the necessity of keeping the first day of the week." Review and Herald, Vol. 1, p. 405.

·       Since the 2300 days of Daniel 8 have a reapplication because Ellen White says that all the events foretold in that chapter will soon come to pass? How would the 2300 days coincide will the 1335 and the end of time?

·       The abomination of desolation will not sit in the Holy Place until day 1290. Daniel 12 clearly states that the abomination of desolation will be set up 1290 days after the removal of the daily. Revelation 13:5 says that he will reign for 42 months or 1260 days after he is set up. He does not reign at the beginning of the Sunday law legislation. When he begins his reign, the Sunday Law will be enforced by a death decree. Louis Munilla makes no mention of this death decree which will involve the death of many Christians. All Munilla mentions is the final death decree from which the 144,000 are delivered.

Daniel 12:11, 12 combined with Revelation 13:5, have posed as a conundrum to Bible scholars since the Bible was first written. The problem has been the deciphering as to whether or not the taking away of the daily (perpetual Sabbath) occurs at the same time the abomination that maketh desolate is set up. In other words, is Sunday legislation (not enforcement) on the part of the U.S. government the same thing as the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place?

Ellen White likened the arrival of Roman soldier’s on Jewish soil so many furlongs from Jerusalem and the Temple as parallel to the National Sunday Law. The Jews considered Roman soldiers on their territory as the abominations of desolation. However, the Roman soldiers withdrew for a 3 ½ year interval, after which Titus returned and destroyed the Temple and the city of Jerusalem. So the question arises: Was the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place for that 3 ½ year interval?

14And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

 15When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

 16Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

 17Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:

 18Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

 19And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

 20But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

 21For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

 22And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. Matthew 24:14-22.

It is true that the faithful Jews fled to Pella in A.D. 66, when the Roman army first emerged upon Jewish soil, and that act was considered as the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place. Ellen White does parallel the legislation of the Sunday law to that act on the part of the Roman soldiers. Here is what occurred:

“In the autumn of A.D. 66, Cestius next concentrated his entire force upon Jerusalem.  He arrived during the celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles, and although it was Sabbath, the Jews abandoned their religious rites and rushed out to attack Cestius’ troops.  To the amazement of both Romans and Jews, they broke the Roman ranks.  Indeed, Josephus declares that only a flank attack by a force of footmen and cavalry saved Cestius’ forces.  More than 500 Roman soldiers were killed whereas the Jews lost only 22 men (War ii. 198, 2 [519]).  At this point Agrippa sent an embassy to the Jews; their reaction was to attack his representatives, killing one and wounding the other.  Encouraged by a promise of the royalist party in Jerusalem to open the gates for him, Cestius then gathered his troops to a fresh assault, and penetrated as far as the north wall of the Temple.  Then an astounding thing happened: Cestius withdrew his troops, and placed himself strategically in such a poor position among the Judean hills that the Jews were able to attack him and kill more than 5,000 infantry and nearly 500 cavalry, including many officers, as well as to capture much materiel.

A Lull in the Storm.—The defeat and withdrawal of Cestius gave many of the conservative Jews a chance [respite] to flee from Jerusalem.  Some of them joined Agrippa, others sought quiet in country places, and still others left the country entirely.  It was at this time that the Christians in Jerusalem fled in accordance with the warning of Jesus recorded in Matt. 24:15-19.  According to Eusebius, the 4th-century historian, the Christians in Jerusalem had been warned by prophets before the war began that they should leave the doomed city and find refuge at Pella in Peraea.  They now took this opportunity to make good their escape (Ecclesiastical History iii. 5, 3).” SDA Bible Commentary, Vol. 5, 74, 75.

“Judea, at this time was ruled by Roman procurators most of whom knew little or nothing about the Jewish religion which resulted in continuous irritations to the Jews from the Romans. A group within the city of Jerusalem, known as the Zealots, were active at this time. The Zealots convinced the temple priests to discontinue the daily offerings for the emperor and the empire which was basically a rebellion against Rome.

When Rome heard of the uprising, she dispatched Roman military under the command of Cestius Gallus in 66 AD to put down the rebellion. After surrounding Jerusalem they began a siege of the city, but, after a short time, for no apparent reason, Cestius withdrew his troops and left in retreat. The Jews pursued the Romans killing many and capturing their abandoned war machinery. This humiliating withdrawal by the Romans gave the Jews a false sense of being unconquerable. In addition, it helped to create an atmosphere of having "...Peace and safety..." (1 Thess.5:3), before the destruction of the day of the Lord that was soon to suddenly come upon them (See also 1 Thess.5:3).

When the news of Rome's defeat at the hand of the Jews reached the emperor Nero, he was upset with the poor performance of Cestius. Nero dispatched Vespasian, a veteran general, back to Jerusalem in 67 AD to crush the Jewish revolt and avenge Rome's humiliation and the damage to its ruling prestige. Vespasian advanced into Galilee, the region north of Jerusalem. He conquered its major cities and subdued the land. After the Galilean campaign in the north he marched south and encamped around Jerusalem, but when word came of Nero's death back in Rome, Vespasian abandoned his plan for taking Jerusalem, withdrew his troops, and returned home to become Emperor. Once again the Jews prevailed.”

Considerations Regarding the Interpreting of the Days of Daniel 12 and Revelation 13

“And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.” Daniel 12:7.

A time, times, and a half means one year plus two years and a half which equals three and one half years or 42 months.

In Revelation 13: 1-5, we are told that the beast power will rule for 42 months after the wound is healed.

Ellen White reapplies the 42 months of Rev. 13:5 to the future:

The Days of Daniel 12:11, 12

11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.

The word sacrifice is supplied as evinced by it being in italics in Scripture. We will look at scenarios that begin the daily (Sunday Law) and the abomination being set up at the same time and different times and any problems that ensue.

Scenario #1: How things work out if we consider that the abomination of desolation is seated at the same time the Sunday Law is legislated as constituting the removal of the daily—perpetual Sabbath command:

·       If the abomination of desolation is seated at the time the National Sunday Law is LEGISLATED [daily perpetual Sabbath removed], we have problems. Why?

·       The beast power which is the abomination of desolation would be seated on day 1 of the legislation (not enforcement) of the Sunday Law.

·       The beast power rules for 42 months or 1260 days, Rev. 13:5.

·       If the National Sunday law was the seating of the abomination of desolation, we should then flee to the mountains or desolate places and that is not what Ellen White said to do. That is not what faithful Christians did in A.D. 66 when they fled to Pella. Pella was surrounded by mountains, but it was a valley surrounded by mountains to which they could later flee.

·       If we fled to the mountains at the Sunday law, how would we give the Loud Cry?

·       If there was a death decree on day 1335, and those decreed against were delivered by the coming of Jesus, and the abomination of desolation is seated on day 1290, the same time as the initial legislation of the National Sunday law (if the Sunday Law is the same thing as the abomination of desolation being seated), the world would end with the coming of Jesus just 45 days after National Sunday Law is legislated.

·       Louis Munilla charts but one death decree. There are two according to Ellen White.

·       Louis Munilla does not account for any martyrs. He has all the faithful living being delivered by the coming of Christ. Of the living, only the 144,000 are thus delivered and translated without seeing death.

·       Consider this serious thought friend: If only the 144,000 are translated without seeing death, all others who are saved will have to give their life to be saved.

Some Are Imprisoned for Their Faith

     Some will be imprisoned because they refuse to desecrate the Sabbath of the Lord.--PC 118 (1907). {LDE 149.2}

     As the defenders of truth refuse to honor the Sunday-sabbath some of them will be thrust into prison, some will be exiled, some will be treated as slaves. To human wisdom all this now seems impossible, but as the restraining Spirit of God shall be withdrawn from men and they shall be under the control of Satan, who hates the divine precepts, there will be strange developments. The heart can be very cruel when God's fear and love are removed.--GC 608 (1911). {LDE 149.3}

     If we are called to suffer for Christ's sake, we shall be able to go to prison trusting in Him as a little child trusts in its parents. Now is the time to cultivate faith in God.--OHC 357 (1892). {LDE 149.4}

“Many will be martyrs for Christ’s sake in standing in defense of the truth.” Selected Messages, Book 3, p. 397.

“Persecution in the Battle Before the Last Closing Conflict.--The two armies will stand distinct and  separate, and this distinction will be so marked that  many who shall be convinced of the truth will come on the side of God's commandment-keeping people. When this  grand work is to take place in the battle, prior to the last closing conflict, many will be imprisoned, many will flee for their lives from cities and towns, and many will be martyrs for Christ's sake in standing in defense of the truth. . . . You will not be tempted above what you are able to bear. Jesus bore all this and far more. . . . {3SM 397.4}

Many Will Be Put to Death [Many Martyrs]

     The best thing for us is to come into close connection with God and, if He would have us be martyrs for the truth's sake, it may be the means of bringing many more into the truth.--3SM 420 (1886). {LDE 149.5}

      Many will be imprisoned, many will flee for their lives from cities and towns, and many will be martyrs for Christ's sake in standing in defense of the truth.--3SM 397 (1889). {LDE 150.1}

     There is a prospect before us of a continued struggle, at the risk of imprisonment, loss of property and even of life itself, to defend the law of God.--5T 712 (1889). {LDE 150.2}

     Men will be required to render obedience to human edicts in violation of the divine law. Those who are true to God will be menaced, denounced, proscribed. They will be "betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends," even unto death.--PK 588 (c. 1914). {LDE 150.3}

     We are not to have the courage and fortitude of martyrs of old until brought into the position they were in. . . . Should there be a return of persecution there would be grace given to arouse every energy of the soul to show a true heroism.--OHC 125 (1889). {LDE 150.4}

     The disciples were not endowed with the courage and fortitude of the martyrs until such grace was needed.--DA 354 (1898). {LDE 150.5}

Scenario #2: Reckoning that the abomination of desolation is seated 1290 days after the initial Sunday Law legislation (not enforcement).

·       Legislation of the National Sunday Law—(daily—perpetual Sabbath removed).

·       The abomination of desolation is seated 1290 days later.

·       If the Sunday law and the abomination of desolation (beast power of Rev. 13:5) were the same thing, then the reign of the beast would be over by day 1290, because his tenure is for 1260 days, not 1290.

·       If the beast power begins to be seated on day 1290, 1290 days after the taking away of the daily (perpetual Sabbath) by Sunday Law legislation, then his tenure must extend for 1260 more days after the 1290 per Daniel 12:7 and Revelation 13:5. That would give us 1290 days before the seating of the beast and 1260 days after his seating, for a total of 2,550 days.

·       Thus, the 2,550 day time period is the only one that makes sense, especially when one considers the trodding down of the holy place by the Gentiles as an event of Daniel 8 that will be repeated in literal time.

Munilla says of February 2, 2006, that “counting back 1335 days from the commencement of the Jubilee when God’s people are delivered, brings us to February 2, 2006. On this date, I (Munilla speaking) think the National Sunday Law should go into effect in the United States.”

Obviously, Munilla was wrong.

Scenario #3:

A third scenario incorporates the 2300 days of Daniel 8 in a reapplication for the following reasons:

Ellen White said that all the events foretold in Daniel 8 would soon come to pass (future fulfillment), to wit:

“The light that Daniel received from God was given especially for these last days.  The visions he saw by the banks of the Ulai [chapter 8] and the Hiddekel [chapter 10], the great rivers of Shinar, are now in process of fulfillment, and all the events foretold will soon come to pass.”  -Ellen G. White, Testimonies to Ministers, pages 112, 113.

Though Louis Munilla quotes the above statement by Ellen White, he fails to follow it. He reapplies only the events involving the He-goat and the Ram. But who can deny this evidence:

Some key issues relative to Daniel 8:14 are involved with these questions, especially applicable to those who believe the He-goat and the ram scenario is repeated:

·         In Daniel 8:9 a little horn waxes exceeding great toward the south, and toward the east and toward the pleasant land. The SDA Bible Commentary defines the pleasant land as the glorious land of Jerusalem and Palestine.

·         In verse 10 the little horn waxes great, even to the host of heaven, and it cast down some of the host, and of the stars to the ground and stamped upon or trod them under foot, cf. verse 13.

·         In verse 12, a host is given to the little horn that is against the daily (the perpetual, continual Sabbath) which was to be a perpetual sign of God's people forever, a perpetual covenant. This is all after a little horn emerges after the He-goat and Ram confrontation.

·         In verse 13, one saint asks the question of another saint: "How long shall be the vision concerning the daily (Sabbath) and the transgression of desolation to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden underfoot?

·         Verse 14 says the time the sanctuary and host will be trodden underfoot AFTER THE LITTLE HORN EMERGES, IN CONTEXT, is 2300 days; and then the sanctuary will be cleansed.

How could anyone mistake this event as occurring AFTER the little horn emerges?

Munilla Reapplies the He-Goat and Ram of Daniel 8

Lou Munilla reapplies the He-Goat and the Ram of Daniel 8 as do I, but he does not reapply the 2300 days of Daniel 8. That position is not consistent with the context of the chapter.

How could anyone mistake this event as occurring AFTER the little horn emerges AFTER the He-goat and Ram confrontation? Are there any who can contest this clear evidence with good evidence?

The gist of the evidence presented above empirically demands that any reapplication of the He-goat and Ram parts of Daniel 8, thereby demand a reapplication of the 2300 days to literal time at the end if one is the least consistent in his/her interpretation. By any reapplication of the 2300 days in literal time, one does no despite to the historic version any more than he does despite to the historic version of the He-goat and the Ram. Any attempt to reapply the He-goat and Ram applications without doing the same for the 2300 days, is totally inconsistent with the context of entire chapter of Daniel 8. This should be clear as crystal to the astute Bible student with spiritual discernment. And if this is not so, demonstrate how it is not. I refer to the first 3 ½ years as the little time of trouble. The last 3 ½ years will be the great time of trouble and I believe God will cut this time short and how short no one knows.

One closing thought before entering Louis Munilla’s study is this, friend: If the final time should indeed be longer than the 42 month period, think of the disbelief that will enter many minds if time continues another 3 ½ years if God’s people are not taught the truth on this issue. By considering the longer option, this will prevent such a state of bewilderment in the minds of those who fully expect only a 42 month time of trouble. Believe me friend, if the end-time days are but 42 months, no one will be more thankful than me. But I have tried to consider all possible options and what I believe God has showed me.

This link gives what I believe God showed me concerning end-time events:
