Testing New Movement Seventh-day Adventism by Its Own Standards of Testing For a Cult

Dear Reader,

A detractor of our ministry by the name of Teresa Quintero has publicly accused me of advocating the teachings of the Shepherd’s Rod and/or the Davidians. This is a gross untruth. Some Seventh-day Adventists believe that if one agrees with God and Ellen White that Ezekiel 9 will be literally fulfilled again, they are automatically of the Shepherd’s Rod/Davidian persuasion. This could not be further from the truth in my case. On my Website I have many documents stating what I believe to be errant about those cultish sects, to wit:

Teresa went to the SDA Biblical Research Website to find the following tests of a cult. Surely it should be fair and of great interest and importance to apply the very tests prescribed by the SDA Biblical Research Institute to their own New Movement Adventism, as Ellen White portrayed the new movement—new organization in Selected Messages, Bk. 1, 204-5. I will do that below. First, Teresa’s post to SDAissues forum.

Sifting Truth From Error-Questions to Ask

      “The experience of the Shepherd's Rods and similar groups
illustrates the hazards, not in holding strong religious faith, but
in distorting it. As Ellen White reminds us, "the track of truth lies
close beside the track of error" (Review and Herald; Oct. 22, 1903).
Several simple but important tests should be applied by every
believer who wants to build solid faith while hedging against error.

      1.    Is there a heavy concentration on one or two main points?
      2.    Am I hearing a careful pursuit of understanding, or an
urging toward quick conclusions?
      3.    Does the person or group distance themselves from the
larger body of believers? Such separation robs us of the balance
provided by hearing the whole church.
      4.    Does the promoter or group emphasize impending danger to
the point of creating a feeling of desperation? A true walk with
Christ builds hope and confidence, not terror.
      5.    Is undue attention given to the ideas of one person?
      6.    Am I urged to accept uncritically whatever is promoted,
buttressed by the use of selected Bible texts and Spirit of Prophecy
quotations as proofs?

      Ours is a perilous age for Christians, not only from unbelief,
but a willingness to believe too much. The false lies beside the
true. The drives of human needs and the hype of marketing, both in
products and ideas, push us to make the most crucial of decisions on
shallow evidence. Christ has a better way: careful searching of His
Word and placing utter trust in Him alone.” As quoted from the SDA Biblical Research Institute by Teresa Quintero

Teresa,

Weigh your Sifting Truth From Error Questions with the following statements by Ellen White, the Bible and the Omega of Apostasy of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1957, as defined in the following link: http://www.sdadefend.com/Ad-history/Begin-end/Begin-End.htm

"The enemy of souls has sought to bring in the supposition that a great reformation was to take place among Seventh-day Adventists, and that this reformation would consist in giving up the doctrines which stand as the pillars of our faith, and engaging in a process of reorganization. Were this reformation to take place, what would result? The principles of truth that God in His wisdom has given to the remnant church, would be discarded. Our religion would be changed. The fundamental principles that have sustained the work for the last fifty years would be accounted as error. A NEW ORGANIZATION would be established. Books of a NEW ORDER would be written. A system of intellectual philosophy would be introduced. The founders of this system would go into the cities, and do a wonderful work. The Sabbath of course, would be lightly regarded, as also the God who created it. Nothing would be allowed to stand in the way of the NEW MOVEMENT. The leaders would teach that virtue is better than vice, but GOD BEING REMOVED, they would place their dependence on human power, which, without God, is worthless. Their foundation would be built on the sand, and storm and tempest would sweep away the structure.

Who has authority to begin such a [NEW] movement? We have our Bibles, we have our experience, attested to by the miraculous working of the Holy Spirit. We have a truth that admits of no compromise. Shall we not repudiate everything that is not in harmony with this truth? E.G. White, Selected Messages, Vol. 1, 204, 205.

Let's apply the SDA Biblical Institute’s Sifting Truth From Error-Questions to Ask, to the above statement by Ellen White by asking the following pertinent questions:

1.    Who brings in the supposition that a great reformation was to take place AMONG SDA's? It was a handful of men in 1957, and primarily LESS THAN A HANDFULF OF MEN--Froom, Anderson, Unruh and Read.

2.    Was there a heavy concentration on one or two main points? Yes indeed--THE ATONEMENT AND THE NATURE OF CHRIST! But since all that one believes clusters around these important two issues, the number of issues involved is irrelevant!

3.    Does Omega Ministries concentrate on one or two main points? No. Our Website covers every issue vital to true, pioneer Seventh-day Adventism.

4.    Did Leroy Froom, Roy Allen Anderson, T. E. Unruh and William E. Read, distance themselves from the larger world body? Did they take their apostate compromises of truth to the General Conference in World Session? Nay! They bulldozed their apostasies through on the side!

5.    Did they separate from the pillars of the pioneers on these important pillar doctrines involving the very Sanctuary Service? Yes they did! Did that separate rob them and all who followed them--of the balance providing by hearing the whole church and what it believed? Yes it did! Their separation from the truth caused the greatest apostasy division there has ever been in the church! Ellen White prophesied that there would be more danger from WITHIN, and this occurred WITHIN--AMONG the members of the church.

1.    Did the promoters of the compromising, unpardonable sin apostasy group of men emphasize impending danger to the point of creating a feeling of DESPERATION? Yes they did. They warned of the impending danger of being called a cult, when God said in Isaiah 8:9-14 not to fear their fear—meaning those who operate in discordance with His Word!

2.    They did not build up hope and confidence in abiding in the TRUTH. They fed on the terror of being called a cult and used this element to persuade the members of the church to accept the great apostasy they imbibed on behalf of the church.

3.    Was undue attention given to a few men instead of the General Conference in World Session? Yes indeed! Primarily to three men! The same men had a role in bulldozing through the World Accreditation Standards in the early 1930's, and the adoption of the Trinity Doctrine--ALL WITHOUT EVER TAKING SUCH IMPORTANT ISSUES TO THE GENERAL CONFERENC IN WORLD SESSION!

4.    Does the New Movement--New Organization, Selected Messages, Bk. 1, pp. 204-5, urge all to accept UNCRITICALLY WHATEVER IT PROMOTES, buttressed by a very carefully selected FEW BIBLE AND SOP quotations as proofs?! Yes indeed. Out of over 1200 statements by Ellen White, on the nature of Christ, they "cherry picked" only eight and interpreted them so as to make Ellen White a self-contradictory prophet by the others!

5.    Have the ancient men, those who were privileged with great light, 5T 211, imbibed unbelief and a willingness to believe TOO MUCH? Yes indeed! Too much apostate error to the point that they committed unpardonable sin by doing the same things apostate Israel did in Jeremiah 11:9-15 and Isaiah 8:9-13. Five SDA ministers with their doctorates in religion have concluded that the new movement Seventh-day Adventist church has indeed committed unpardonable sin. Those ministers are: Dr. Paul Tulla; Dr. John Grosboll; Dr. Ralph Larson (now deceased); Dr. Colin Standish and Dr. Russell Standish. Here is the link to an article by Dr. John Grosboll and Dr. Ralph Larson: http://stepstolife.org/library/jgrosball/nonedare_1.htm

6.    Did they apply the false as lying so close to the track of error that no difference could be seen by the shallow sheep followers? Yes indeed!

7.    Did they appeal to the drives of human needs by hype tactics to market their apostasy by hyping up the BEING CALLED A CULT, and portraying that as the all-important impending danger in order to get their way?! Yeah!! Yeah! Yeah! Did they do all of the above on "SHALLOW EVIDENCE?" Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!

8.    Did they follow "careful searching of His Word and the SOP, placing utter trust in Him alone? Nay! Nay! Nay!

Dr. George R. Knight said:

"Most of the founders of Seventh-day Adventism would not be able to join the church today if they had to subscribe to the denomination's Fundamental Beliefs. More specifically, most would not be able to agree to belief Number 2, which deals with the doctrine of the Trinity." George R. Knight, Ministry magazine, October, 1993.

Now, apply all the test questions Teresa posted to the following statement:

 "The Sanhedrin had rejected Christ's message and was bent upon His death therefore Jesus departed from Jerusalem, from the priests, the temple, the religious leaders, the people who had been instructed in the law, and turned to another class to proclaim His message, and to gather out those who should carry the gospel to all nations.

As the light and life of men was rejected by the ecclesiastical authorities in the days of Christ, so it has been rejected in every succeeding generation. Again and again the history of Christ's withdrawal from Judea has been repeated. When the Reformers preached the word of God, they had no thought of separating themselves from the established church but the religious leaders would not tolerate the light, and those that bore it were forced to seek another class, who were longing for the truth. In our day few of the professed followers of the Reformers are actuated by their spirit. Few are listening for the voice of God, and ready to accept truth in whatever guise it may be presented. Often those who follow in the steps of the Reformers are forced to turn away from the churches they love, in order to declare the plain teaching of the word of God. And many times those who are seeking for light are by the same teaching obliged to leave the church of their fathers, that they may render obedience." E.G. White, Desire of Ages, 232.

1.    Did Jesus give a heavy concentration on leaving the apostasy when He gathered out those who would take the gospel to the world? I would think the Jews would have required that since they were so bigoted about their religion? Did Paul do the same? Did Jeremiah do the same, Jeremiah 11:9-15? Jesus also proclaimed the true gospel to those He gathered out, and so have I. Members on this forum can testify to that. We have spent weeks, months and years on the true gospel versus the false in the new movement SDA church. We have spent much time on the "highest good, crowning gift that heaven can bestow," the Holy Spirit life and soul of Jesus Christ, as given as a free gift to all who will receive it.

2.    I have given a careful pursuit of deep understanding that transcends anything taught in your church, as regards the gospel and the conditions for salvation. Has your new movement cult done that?

3.    Does Ellen White say that true prophets warned all true Christians prior to the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70, of the impending danger?

4.    Did the ancient prophet's warn PRIMARILY of the impending danger and encourage the people to "escape for their lives?"

5.    Ellen White says that the leaders at the apostate temple gave peace and safety comfortings, saying that the Romans would never penetrate the gates to the city of Jerusalem.

6.    Ellen White says that the dumb-dog watchmen of the omega of apostasy New Movement--New Organization, dream only of peace and safety and will NEVER AGAIN show the house of Jacob its sins, thus warning the people of their duty to put sin out of the life NOW in the antitypical Day of Atonement. 5T 211.

7.    Ellen White made many appeals to the church as to what would happen to it if it apostatized, but as stated heretofore, the church had not yet committed omega apostasy in her day or she would have had much more to say! This is an understatement!

8.    In regard to the reasons why every true reformer left the church of his/her fathers in the above statement, was there an involvement of a heavy concentration on one or two main points? The only point (reason given for leaving) that Ellen White cites is that the leaders would not tolerate light?

9.    Have all the true reformers in every succeeding generation since Christ, distanced themselves from the larger body of believers? Were they robbed of the balance provided by hearing the whole "apostate" church?

10.                       Were the Adventists of 1844, robbed of the balance provided by hearing the whole “apostate” church?

11.                       Were the Reformers of the Reformation robbed of the balance provided by hearing the whole “apostate” Catholic church?

12.                       Is the True Reform movement among True Seventh-day Adventism the work and ideas of one person, or are there many, even a number with their doctorate in religion, and many SDA ministers who are proclaiming the warning all over the world?

13.                       True reformers welcome criticism and respond to ALL QUESTIONS which are targeted to be against them. I have NEVER ONCE refused to answer questions, but you Teresa, the members and leaders of your new movement have often refused to answer clear and fair questions.

14.                       Have SDA leaders FOR DECADES used VERY SELECTED "CHERRY PICKED" BIBLE AND SPIRIT OF PROPHECY QUOTATIONS as proofs as to why we should remain in an apostate church no matter what it does? Did the Jewish leaders do the same thing? See Great Controversy, Chapter 1?

15.                       This is indeed a perilous age of unbelief. UNBELIEF is exactly what Ellen White accused the leaders of in 5T 211. The SDA Bible Commentary says that the ancient Jewish leaders were virtual atheists. Ellen White said that there will be a COUNTERPART to the apostasy of Israel, and apostate SDA's are the only ones who qualify as a parallel COUNTERPART to apostate Israel because both have the following in common: Claim be God's commandment-keeping people. Claim to be God's remnant. Claim to keep God's seventh-day Sabbath. Claim to have the gift of prophecy in their midst’s.

16.                       True reformers have made no crucial decision based on shallow evidence. New Movement Adventism has! They have imbibed apostasy based on the shallow evidence that God does not see what they do; These persons come to feel secure in their deceptions and, because of His long-suffering, say that the Lord seeth not, and then act as though He had forsaken the earth. But He will detect their hypocrisy and will open before others those sins which they were so careful to hide. {5T 211.3}

 "The recreant priests added licentiousness to the dark catalogue of their crimes yet they still polluted by their presence the tabernacle of the Lord, and, laden with sin, dared to come into the presence of a holy God. As the men of Israel witnessed the corrupt course of the priests, they thought it safer for their families not to come up to the appointed place of worship. Many went from Shiloh with their peace disturbed, their indignation aroused, until they at last determined to offer their sacrifices themselves, concluding that this would be fully as acceptable to God, as to sanction in any manner the abominations practiced in the Sanctuary." E.G. White, The Signs of the Times, vol. 1, p. 264, col. 3, December 1, 1881.

·       What points did the ancient prophets of Scripture dwell on after Israel apostatized? Was there a heavy concentration on the results of Israel's apostasy and the results if Israel continued therein? Yes indeed. And let’s remember that the church had not committed omega of apostasy in Ellen White’s day by forming a new movement/new organization that removed God, 1SM 204-5. Thus, she did not have to concentrate on the omega apostasy that the “church” is now involved in.

·       In the "recreant priest quote above, did the faithful think it safer for their families not to come up to the appointed place of worship? when many went from Shiloh with their peace disturbed, their indignation aroused, until they at last determined to offer their sacrifices themselves, concluding that this would be fully as acceptable to God, as to sanction in any manner the abominations practiced in the Sanctuary.

·       Did the true believers distance themselves from the body of believers? Yes!

·       Did that distancing make them a cult? No!

·       Did their separation rob them of the balance provided by hearing the whole apostate church? No, because there is no balance in an apostate church! God said that it is impossible to unity with the corrupt and remain pure!

·       Did the families who left to worship in their homes promote or emphasize impending danger to the point of creating or feeling desperation? Yes! Were they wrong in doing so? Obviously not!

·       Were they justified by the ancient prophets? Yes! Jeremiah was a contemporary prophet in the days of Shiloh! Read Jeremiah 11:9-15, where God enjoins the question: What hath my beloved (bride) to do in mine house (church--temple) since she hath wrought lewdness with many. When she doeth evil she rejoiceth! Celebrates! SDA's have done the very same thing after they did evil, omega apostasy.

Chap. 24 - The Seal of God

     "He cried also in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand." {5T 207.2}

     And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer's inkhorn by his side; and the Lord said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof. And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at My sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house." {5T 207.3}

     Jesus is about to leave the mercy seat of the heavenly sanctuary to put on garments of vengeance and pour out His wrath in judgments upon those who have not responded to the light God has given them. "Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil." Instead of being softened by the patience and long forbearance that the Lord has exercised toward them, those who fear not God and love not the truth strengthen their hearts in their evil course. But there are limits even to the forbearance of God, and many are exceeding these boundaries. They have overrun the limits of grace, and therefore God must interfere and vindicate His own honor. {5T 207.4}

     Of the Amorites the Lord said: "In the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full." Although this nation was conspicuous because of its idolatry and corruption, it had not yet filled up the cup of its iniquity, and God would not give command for its utter destruction. The people were to see the divine power manifested in a marked manner, that they might be left without excuse. The compassionate Creator was willing to bear with their iniquity until the fourth generation. Then, if no change was seen for the better, His judgments were to fall upon them. {5T 208.1}

     With unerring accuracy the Infinite One still keeps an account with all nations. While His mercy is tendered with calls to repentance, this account will remain open; but when the figures reach a certain amount which God has fixed, the ministry of His wrath commences. The account is closed. Divine patience ceases. There is no more pleading of mercy in their behalf. {5T 208.2} [See Jeremiah 11:9-15 for case in point.]

     The prophet, looking down the ages, had this time presented before his vision. The nations of this age have been the recipients of unprecedented mercies. The choicest of heaven's blessings have been given them, but increased pride, covetousness, idolatry, contempt of God, and base ingratitude are written against them. They are fast closing up their account with God. {5T 208.3}

     But that which causes me to tremble is the fact that those who have had the greatest light and privileges have become contaminated by the prevailing iniquity. Influenced by the unrighteous around them, many, even of those who profess the truth, have grown cold and are borne down by the strong current of evil. The universal scorn thrown upon true piety and holiness leads those who do not connect closely with God to lose their reverence for His law. If they were following the light and obeying the truth from the heart, this holy law would seem even more precious to them when thus despised and set aside. As the disrespect for God's law becomes more manifest, the line of demarcation between its observers and the world becomes more distinct. Love for the divine precepts increases with one class according as contempt for them increases with another class. {5T 209.1}

     The crisis is fast approaching. The rapidly swelling figures show that the time for God's visitation has about come. Although loath to punish, nevertheless He will punish, and that speedily. Those who walk in the light will see signs of the approaching peril; but they are not to sit in quiet, unconcerned expectancy of the ruin, comforting themselves with the belief that God will shelter His people in the day of visitation. Far from it. They should realize that it is their duty to labor diligently to save others, looking with strong faith to God for help. "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." {5T 209.2}

     The leaven of godliness has not entirely lost its power. At the time when the danger and depression of the church are greatest, the little company who are standing in the light will be sighing and crying for the abominations that are done in the land. But more especially will their prayers arise in behalf of the church because its members are doing after the manner of the world. {5T 209.3}

     The earnest prayers of this faithful few will not be in vain. When the Lord comes forth as an avenger, He will also come as a protector of all those who have preserved the faith in its purity and kept themselves unspotted from the world. It is at this time that God has promised to avenge His own elect which cry day and night unto Him, though He bear long with them. {5T 210.1}

     The command is: "Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof." These sighing, crying ones had been holding forth the words of life; they had reproved, counseled, and entreated. Some who had been dishonoring God repented and humbled their hearts before Him. But the glory of the Lord had departed from Israel; although many still continued the forms of religion, His power and presence were lacking. {5T 210.2}

What a lesson is this to men holding positions of responsibility today in the church of God! What a solemn warning to deal faithfully with wrongs that bring dishonor to the cause of truth! Let none who claim to be the depositaries of God's law flatter themselves that the regard they may outwardly show toward the commandments will preserve them from the exercise of divine justice. Let none refuse to be reproved for evil, nor charge the servants of God with being too zealous in endeavoring to cleanse the camp from evil-doing. A sin-hating God calls upon those who claim to keep His law to depart from all iniquity. A neglect to repent and to render willing obedience will bring upon men and women today as serious consequences as came upon ancient Israel. There is a limit beyond which the judgments of Jehovah can no longer be delayed. The desolation of Jerusalem in the days of Jeremiah is a solemn warning to modern Israel, that
the counsels and admonitions given them through chosen instrumentalities cannot be disregarded with impunity.  {PK 416.2}

Jeremiah's message to priests and people aroused the antagonism of many. With boisterous denunciation they cried out, "Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the Lord." Jeremiah 26:9. Priests, false prophets, and people turned in wrath upon him who would not speak to them smooth things or prophesy deceit. Thus was the message of God despised, and His servant threatened with death.  {PK 417.1}

     In the time when His wrath shall go forth in judgments, these humble, devoted followers of Christ will be distinguished from the rest of the world by their soul anguish, which is expressed in lamentation and weeping, reproofs and warnings. While others try to throw a cloak over the existing evil, and excuse the great wickedness everywhere prevalent, those who have a zeal for God's honor and a love for souls will not hold their peace to obtain favor of any. Their righteous souls are vexed day by day with the unholy works and conversation of the unrighteous. They are powerless to stop the rushing torrent of iniquity, and hence they are filled with grief and alarm. They mourn before God to see religion despised in the very homes of those who have had great light. They lament and afflict their souls because pride, avarice, selfishness, and deception of almost every kind are in the church. The Spirit of God, which prompts to reproof, is trampled underfoot, while the servants of Satan triumph. God is dishonored, the truth made of none effect. {5T 210.3}

     The class who do not feel grieved over their own spiritual declension, nor mourn over the sins of others, will be left without the seal of God. The Lord commissions His messengers, the men with slaughtering weapons in their hands: "Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at My sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house." {5T 211.1}

     Here we see that the church--the Lord's sanctuary--was the first to feel the stroke of the wrath of God. The ancient men, those to whom God had given great light and who had stood as guardians of the spiritual interests of the people, had betrayed their trust. They had taken the position that we need not look for miracles and the marked manifestation of God's power as in former days. Times have changed. These words strengthen their unbelief, and they say: The Lord will not do good, neither will He do evil. He is too merciful to visit His people in judgment. Thus "Peace and safety" is the cry from men who will never again lift up their voice like a trumpet to show God's people their transgressions and the house of Jacob their sins. These dumb dogs that would not bark are the ones who feel the just vengeance of an offended God. Men, maidens, and little children all perish together. {5T 211.2}

     The abominations for which the faithful ones were sighing and crying were all that could be discerned by finite eyes, but by far the worst sins, those which provoked the jealousy of the pure and holy God, were unrevealed. The great Searcher of hearts knoweth every sin committed in secret by the workers of iniquity. These persons come to feel secure in their deceptions and, because of His long-suffering, say that the Lord seeth not, and then act as though He had forsaken the earth. But He will detect their hypocrisy and will open before others those sins which they were so careful to hide. {5T 211.3}

     No superiority of rank, dignity, or worldly wisdom, no position in sacred office, will preserve men from sacrificing principle when left to their own deceitful hearts. Those who have been regarded as worthy and righteous prove to be ring-leaders in apostasy and examples in indifference and in the abuse of God's mercies. Their wicked course He will tolerate no longer, and in His wrath He deals with them without mercy. {5T 212.1}

     It is with reluctance that the Lord withdraws His presence from those who have been blessed with great light and who have felt the power of the word in ministering to others. They were once His faithful servants, favored with His presence and guidance; but they departed from Him and led others into error, and therefore are brought under the divine displeasure. {5T 212.2}

Conclusion

The SDA Biblical Research Institute totally fails to pass the test of its’ own standards whereby the church’s members are to judge a cult or a sect or anyone who separates from the same apostasy that true reformers have separated from in every succeeding generation in order to be approved by God. If you have any doubt that God’s people as a corporate body are judged on a generational basis, read Jeremiah 11:9-15 on your knees in a spirit of supplication to the Lord.
